I always had geldings, never ever seemed to get on with mares, but since having Honey ive discoverd you get much more out of mares (eventually

)
So do you preffer mares or geldings?

had a mare for 12 years, she was quirky but i loved her just the same. have had 2 geldings since who are absolute stars. also have 2 tinies for my kids, 1 mare 1 gelding and they are both great in their own way - so to tell you the truth i love mares and geldings! couldn't be without either

I have always had mares, geldings dont seem to do it for me, I like the challange with mares lol
They say you can tell a gelding but you have to ask a mare!!!

Mares. I think you can get a better bond with them than geldings. And in my experience they have been more 1 person horses, more intelligent and you can dress them in pink

All VERY generalised though. Wouldn't choose a horse because of gender though, but prefer mares in general, more about them

Mares for me. A lot of geldings I know are just too boring! Not saying that ALL geldings are like that as I know a number of VERY cheeky geldings, but I prefer mares.

Your telling me! Honey normally gets put out into a bigger pen with more grass before i bring her in and today i decided to just bring her straight in .. Hon had other ideas

She took herself off, galloped once around the pen then came trotting over like im finished time to go in

Shes a cow but i wouldnt want her any other way!

Mares. I just find them so much easier than geldings. I have only had one mare who was grotty when in season but the rest of the time she was great. Maybe I have just been lucky.

Far smarter, more sensitive, better bond, give you more, AND you can breed from them if they get broken

I'd have to seriously question whether I could bring myself to pay good money for a gelding...

I vee had three mares, one bit savagely, the other a RID, kicked savagely and the third bucked savagely. I find geldings generally more easy going - no hormones I guess, but a good friend has always had the most lovely natured mares.
I think it just depends on the horse, though the hormones can put an extra factor in when you least need it.

I never thought I had a preference really, my all time fav ned was a gelding but since having had my share mare for the last 11 years and found all the geldings we've had aswell to be bolshy, stubborn and slow on the uptake in comparison I'd have to go for mares now! Having said that mine isn't mareish or fussy but she is definitely the boss and every blade of grass in the field belongs to her!

Me too, mares definitely. If there were 2 identical horses, one a mare and one a gelding, I would pay more for the mare

geldings i have 4 don't have to deal with the messy stables when they are in season lol did have one mare but she was way too tempremental for me a bit too much like myself lol

Ive had 3 mares and a gelding - just happened that way, didnt have a preference. I currently have one of each and I love them both to bits. I probably have a stronger bond with my mare, but it took a long time to achieve. She is definitely not as easy as my gelding and she has a much stronger self preservation instinct, which was really useful when I used to xc her. My gelding is really easy to ride and handle and loves everybody. They both have equally great personalities tho. For me personally, if I felt it was the right horse for me, whether it were a mare or a gelding wouldnt influence my decision.
