Hi, does anyone know who owns the mares wtih foals at foot up at Park Bridge, between the first two rows of houses above the visitor centre? There are some other neds in with them which are in perfectly ok condition, but the two broodmares are frankly, very poor - well on their way to skeletal TBH. The foals look fine and I know it takes a lot of calories to feed a foal, and it could well be that he mums are quite old (they look a bit TB in type) but they clearly are not getting anything like enough to eat. I cared for a 44 year old pony in her in her final years and she was no fatter at the end that this pair of ladies. I thought my own mare was looking poor the day before she was PTS aged rising 30 but she was fatter than them both. You could play tunes on their ribs, their lower spines are up by a good two inches and their hips have no coverage at all. I don't want to see anyone get into trouble, but the mares are in trouble now and so if you know their owner, PLEASE tell them to feed these mares properly. I can't be the only person who has noticed the state they are in. I would put them at absolutely no higher than 2 on the body condition scale. I am toying with reporting them but its hard as they do have (some) grazing and as I said before, the other horses look ok.

Yes, I looked up the number yesterday and will find a moment to ring after work. To have one nursing mare looking poor might be bad luck, but two is surely bad management. Knowing this forum some irate poster will probably come on in due course cursing the "stupid member of the public who knows nothing about horses whatsoever" but grassed them up to the welfare bodies!!
