someone ramdonly suggested to me the other day about using a market harborough on my mare, she can be a fiesty thing when she doesnt fancy doing what i ask whilst schooling.

can someone please tell me in what circumstances you would use one of these of your horse and what is the difference between the action of a market harborough and draw reins?
i have had a quick look online but figured it would be better to hear your opinions and experiences! so any responses will be greatly appreciated

i currently have a hunting breatplate with a running martingale attachment. she can be very violent with chucking her head around.

I've got one for my boy for schooling purposes as he is green especially in the trot to canter transitions.
Basically with the MH unlike with the draw reins the rider cannot keep ravelling up the reins until the horses head is in its' chest.
Once the horse has stopped hoiking and is working forward in a relaxed outline then the MH stops acting and the horse is on the direct rein.
You must ride correctly though from back to front and not just block the front end.

Agree with Tetrach.

I've used one a handful of times on my boy and it just helps me to get the 'feeling,' of a few things. Particularly helpful when he's being a bit of a pig!!

When used properly I find it very helpful. It's also elastic and it will not force them down unless you ride back-front.
