I imagine that any craft outlet will have leather stamping kits, your nearest saddler may also be able to do it for you.

I am afraid that I just whip out my soldering iron and ID my stuff, not quite as neat perhaps, but no-one sees it unless they look and it worked well enough for me to ID my stolen tack and retrieve it from a tack shop.

You can buy marking kits but by the time you buy the alphabet and number sets they work out quite expensive.

I see you are in Dorset, Hampshire Equine Liaison officers have several marking sets around the county, so maybe an approach via Hampshire horse watch might help, if you can get your tack to them or get a group together if near the border and hold a marking session.

This company in the USA will make custom stamps, it might be worth approaching them or a company similar in the UK to make a stamp for your postcode, if you are not thinking of moving soon!!

You can buy stencils for rugs or custom marking kits, but I find gloss paint and a cheap brush just as effective, after all they will soon be muddy and filthy, but if marked likely still on your horse!

Hi all,

thanks for ur advice, i have contacted someone from horsewatch who put me in contact with the local police. They dont come out to mark tack anymore, so they are lending me a set of die stamps, however the ones used for horse tack arent available to use so she is giving me ones they use to mark watches :S :S :S she assures me they will still be acceptable to identify tack, just smaller than usual. anyone know how to use die stamps? lol, Im worried i might damage my tack!

Also, did you guys just to ur postcode or ur house number aswell???x

pm or email me and I will give you the contact details for someone in your area who can offer you complete saddle ID marking and FREE life of the saddle registration on the database the police prefer.

yhe get a large pair or pliars or mould grips like from the pound shop red handles a old typer writer take the letters for your post code off the type writer (use your pliers to pinch them off the stalkes) araldite them on one side of the pliers and on the other side aralidite a flat peice of metal and you have a personlised pair of leather markers for for pennies

Pixi, that's brilliant!

I bought a small engraving set from Wollworths years and years ago for a tenner. It works on everything from hoofpicks to wheelbarrows and you can alter the size of writing of course.
