Apologies this is a duplicate thread couldn't delete the last one and hoping there's a bigger audience here.

When having a horse shot do they ask for proof of ownership/passport?

I would really appreciate any experiences.

Do you mean having a feral horse shot by a marksman, or are you thinking of the hunt coming out ?

I don't think many people will call in a marksman to shoot their horse, it is usually done by the hunt or knackerman at very close range, I wouldn't expect to be asked for the passport if it was in an emergency situation, they will come out and pts as quickly as possible, if prearranged then possibly but unlikely as they are at my home, as they will not be destined for the food chain there is no legal reason for them to check vaccination details or whether they are signed out properly.

A passport is not proof of ownership.

Thank you for responses. I apologise I thought the hunt had a marksman (oops).

Some awful circumstances mean some horses have been stolen under very sinister circumstances and I'm just working out whether the hunt ask for any proof that the horse standing before them is who the owner says it is not necessarily whether they own it (although I liked to think that you had to prove it was your horse first).

Many thanks for response I've never arranged this and so have no idea.

The hunt charge a not insignificant amount to destroy and dispose of horses, I was quoted about £320 inc vat by one hunt in my area, the other was a bit less, so it is unlikely that a thief will be using the services of the hunt unless it is a way of getting back at someone in a particularly unpleasant and cruel way.

in my experience the hunt do not ask for passport, the cost depends on area as in my area for 13.2 pony it is about £70
