As the title says, my mare is now barefoot and looking at getting some hoof boots for her fronts.
Have been told the above boot rubs? On paper they look a very good boot.

Marquis hoof boots were around years ago and I remember considering them when I was first thinking of having the shoes taken off one of my mares, but eventually opted for something else.

There's a really good thread on phoenix horse forum about different people's experiences of different hoof boots. This is a link to it:

It tends to be a compromise between stickability, grip, rubbing and ease of getting on/off, whether they can use hoof boot pads. Hoof shape/size will influence your decision too.

You can quite often pick up secondhand boots quite cheap, which are a great way if your horse's foot size/shape is likely to change once unshod.

Personally, I think the cavallos are a good intro boot - reasonable grip, easy to get on/off, seem to stay on reasonably well. Can't say about rubbing as my guys have so much feather that rubbing doesn't tend to be a problem anyway. Downside is they're not very durable and they get mouldy easily, but they're relatively cheap and cheerful, and so it's not the end of the world if they don't last too long.

Good luck whatever you choose.

Good to know they work well with feather. Not many of my fluffies (actually none) wear boots, but someone asked the other day.

So far though I've found them fairly indestructible. Did have one enormous horse who wore through the soles in a matter of months but they were doing a lot of road work. Others have been going for years - in a rehab role so often worn out in the field in mud and gloop. They can get mouldy I agree and the leather starts to flop like the sorting hat but they still stay on and do the job.

Biggest problem I have with them is they don't cope with very under run feet. And the Sports sadly are made from synthetic material so they don't mould and give as well as the Simples.
