Does anyone?

After the boxing day hunt which entailed lots of snatching in canter, silly mare has a sore mouth

Have been putting vasaline on it, but in the meantime have dug the hackamore out.

We did a little trec comp at the yard yesterday, so put her in the hackamore, the idea being that she would have lots to look at and think about without throwing a complete fruityif she did'nt like it!! She was'nt too bad, we just had some chucking her head right up and shaking it, then she was ok again! Only had a very light contact, the bridle, noseband and curb are all padded but I would like to hack her in it this week and would feel a little more in control with a martingale.

I do too. Just changed to hackamore as ponio was pulling like a train and in the end he was going to win and despite back to basic reschooling has helped competing, hacking wise not a jot of difference!!

Decided after visit from back person, dentist etc, that no pain issues so maybe he just really dislikes bits!! - hacked in it yesterday for few hours and he was fab, although I did have martingale on, i loosened it a few holes to ensure it didnt engage unless his head went dangerously up.

Fine to use with hackamore (old fashion type) but wouldnt use one with american hackamore.

Its an English Hackamore and if anything the nose bit needs letting down a hole, had to dig around in the tack box for some shorter cheek peices as May's were far to long for Ruby!

I just did'nt want to risk her chucking her head up and peeing off while we are hacking (not that I really think she would pee off, but you never know!)

No problem with a hackamore & a martingale, ( old fashoined type or German) just remember you use a differnt type of contact , check and relax not holding on to a contact all the time.I have used on a number of horses over the last 30 years.
it was good enough for Boomarang.

All of ours that had to jump in hackamore's wore martingale's with them no problem, from novice right up to advanced. Here's a pic of my old boss on one of them at Burghley a few years ago - is not the best angle to see it but he is wearing a hackamore and a martingale:
