I would say stick with your lessons. The principles of it would help an unbalanced youngster I would have thought, as you are able to influence the horse and their movement so much from your seatbones. Bear down can sometimes be used too severely leaving the horse feeling that he or she is unable to move. But other than that I'm all for RWYM, it helped me change from an electric seat to a much calmer one. I like it, because I can now stop!

Mary Wanless books are like my bibles

My RI and I have schooled on my green horse and also a riding school pony. Stick with your lessons in my experience the MW way of thinking works with all horses no matter how green.

ooo thank you, you are helping me with my wobbles, i just felt like i was not doing much in my lesson today, he was spooking at everything and made everything seem like it was going backwards - just working on bearing down and breathing for an hour in walk/jump/spook on a 20m circle - it gets frustrating!!!

I think it's important to take bits from different methods and use your broad knowledge to ride your horse as best you can. Obviously core stability etc is very important but if you cant stop, go, turn right, turn left instantly then the very basics are installed and they need to be asap before you can progress to the finer arts of training!
