Hello friends,

A neighbour in a nearby village has offered me the use of a lovely field next to a small river for my horses. Since the sowing of our field with grass seed in springtime has been a disaster, thanks to the driest, hottest summer in Spain for 80 years or so, this field would be perfect for them as it is very sheltered and has it's own little river. But there is masses of wild mint in it. Like, several areas the size of half a tennis court spread throughout the two acres. I need to know if this would be an issue or not.

Thank you all! :)

One of my fields has a lot of wild mint in it. Horses have been using it for 25 years without any issue. They don't tend to eat it but I do!

iv'e got this problem in some of my fields but the horses just ignore it and never eat any, it spreads like mad tho on a serious root system so i'm trying to get rid of it, your neighbour will lose his whole field eventually but if they offer enough grazing despite the mint i wouldn't worry, my 2 our fine and iv'e been here 4 years. xxx

Sorry to hijack but how's you mare's wound now MDB? Last I saw it was doing well?

Ah, thanks for asking :) Touch wood *runs to nearest piece of wood and touches it* it is going well. I daren't speak too soon. There is just a small area of pinky-red flaky skin now about the size of a five pence. No sign of infection for, let me think, probably three months now. Cannot believe it has been seven months since the original injury.

She is much better in herself. I check it daily and touch it, because she was becoming would not let anybody went near her withers at all. Bad memories I guess. She also became really head shy because the vet had to hold her by the ear to inject sedative. So I have really had to work with her every day to get her to trust me again. She tolerates me touching the wound and examining it now so all good.

Vet says I can start riding her two months after it totally heals. So I reckon end of October. She will have forgotten what a saddle is!

Wonderful news. You worked so hard with her.
