Took some pics of my boys bare feet last night as he was trimmed today and wanted comparison pics
The left pics in my collage are from July and the right ones are from last night
I cannot believe the difference!!! I would love to take his fronts off but I don't think I can offer the lifestyle to keep him comfy
He is fed pro hoof and D&H Safe and sound. Currently out 24/7 but will be in soon which I'm nervous about
I treat any thrush by squirting 6% hydrogen peroxide on
Complete bf novice guided only by HHO!

Excellent improvements there. :D

Why don't you try having the fronts off too? You can always have them put back on after all. The winter will be the easiest time to try with no rich grass and boots are an option to start with to help him cope with challenging surfaces.
 
I don't know enough to critique other horses feet! I think that straight short horizontal black line just off centre is where an abcess has blown (now growing down). I'm not sure what that line is down the centre of the first one on the right, would need a closer look. Is it a farrier or a trimmer who looks after him for you? What makes you think he wouldn't cope with the fronts off? You could try stopping the safe & sound, and give him micronised linseed.

Yes, deffo an abcess that has come out via the coronary band.
 
How old would the abcess be? I've had him 2.5yrs and it didn't happen with me!
Is safe and sound not good?
Out yard is so stony that's y I would worry about fronts off Nd he's too good a doer to be off work for long! Plus I would simply be petrified!!

My guess would be about May this year. As there looks to be about 2 months growth in the July pics.

One of mine has really tight white lines and she pops her abscesses really quickly. I can see how if your horse is like her, that h

No you're not...well..if you are I am too! My lad has had fronts on for the past 14 months, due to a granite track yard location. We're now in a different place (no granite :D ) so they came off last week, and the trimmer pointed out to me that he had EXACTLY the same as in your pic above on his off hind. I never even noticed an abscess, as he wasn't lame either, but reckoned it was @May it happened.
So, we can be in the same club :)
 
Sorry - my internet dropped out when i was doing my earlier post and it's unfinished.

What i intended to say is that with a quick abscess, the horse may only be significantly lame for a few hours before it pops. If that lame period occurs overnight, then you wouldn't see it.
 
Oh phew!! That's interesting about the abcess!! He actually lost a front shoe the other week and was without it for about 5 days and managed very well including over the stony yard. But I know from his hinds that it's when the feeling comes back into their feet after a few weeks that they can struggle. In winter we don't have winter to do he's out on a gravelly hardcore area, I'm already worried that his back feet with suffer in the wet conditions as it can get puddly so I wud b v scared to take fronts off and definitely wouldn't confine to stable which I know would be counter productive anyway! Il get his diet right when he's in for winter and see how he does. Thanks for comments everyone!
