Having decided to give Basil a break from Showjumping I have to say what a difference i have seen in the energy levels and enthusiasm of him.
His break from jumping also coincides with me changing his feed last Tuesday to Pure Feed Racing. I am not feeding the recommended weight of feed at the moment as i wanted to introduce slowly. but the rate he is going i dont think he will need 2.5kg of the Pure Feed per day.
Since last week i have hacked Basil out 3 times, schooled him twice and took him round Somerford Farm Ride, letting him have a blast round the small natural fences there.
He is now full of energy, flying changing on his own! Bucking (excited bucks rather than naughty resistant bucks). I have taken my spurs off him and have not had to touch his sides with my whip.
He flew round the farm ride, not needing to be kicked on, taking on the select fences i chose to jump with a lot of confidence and feeling really happy! He appears to be a lot brighter just in his field and stable also.
Still getting bloods done on Thursday but i am thinking it is less likely to be anything wrong in his bloods now, and more the excitement of the farm ride and the extra energy in his new feed.
So cannot rate Pure Feeds highly enough at the moment! His coat is absolutely gleaming also (gonna be a tragedy to clip his beautiful coat tomorrow) and he is licking his bowl completely clean morning and night!
Woo! Itching to give him a pop round the jumps at home but will resist the temptation for a while yet!
