First of all I wondered if this was genuine but even if it isnt this does go on up and down the country. The bit where the owner will fork out lots of reddies to get their hands on one of these designer breeds but wont vax or train them is also true as more and more are turning up in rescues.

I then thought but why put this on Mumsnet why not a dog forum and then I realised they want to get the message out there to the very people who buy them and you are more likely to find them on that site rather than a doggie forum.

True or not I hope anyone hoping to purchase one of these dogs has had a wake up call.

Hoping it isn't genuine, but if its not, it's a very well made example that will hopefully hit home hard..and where it counts.

I believe it :(

I cant count the number of dogs I have put down already and there were way to many who were perfectly healthy..just unwanted strays or a "nuisance" pet or unlucky enough to belong to someone who could not/would pay for them to be saved.

The scenario of poorly trained under exercised, over exuberant young dog who scratches or bites /play bites the kids is a common one. Some of the places I seen practice in were lucky enough to have a rescue willing to give dogs a chance...most did not.

The amount someone spends on the pup they buy is no indication of the amount of care that pet will get. Pedigree or pedipoo it makes no difference, some owners will never care for their dogs the way they need.... be it basics like medical care or obedience training and then call their hour to soon when it isn't working out.

People are also naive and occasionally idiotic when it comes to puppy breeding and buying. Those who are responsible and clued into dog welfare puppy farming and responsible breeding are far out weighed by those who want just a litter or two out of their bitch with no future plan for the pups or who buy the cute pup with equally cutsie name....from less than reliable sources.

And these are the people who are being responsible enough to bring their pets to the vet.

of course its geniune-i see this at work almost every day, its heartbreaking, i do agree with putting them down not condemming them to months or years in sub standard kennels though

Unfortunately I'm sure it is genuine, I expect most vets have been through this many times. I also think they are absolutely right to pts rather than the dog going into a no doubt over crowded rescue kennel.
I bet most vets despair of some of their clients - last week my daughter had a French bulldog in for a caesarian, the owner was absolutely amazed when it was explained that there was a risk to the operation and worst case scenario the bitch wouldn't make it. She hadn't even considered this when mating her bitch, despite the fact that the breed are known to often have problems.:(

I believe it. One of the stafford crosses that ended up in a local rescue was only 3 months old. Owners moving and couldn't keep it. it happens a LOT.

I believe the post to be true. At least the puppy's owner took him to the vet to be quietly and gently pts, being cuddled. Better than being thrown down tower block rubbish shutes to suffocate when more rubbish is thrown down onto them, thrown from high rise balconies or out of fast moving cars on motorways. This, or worse is done by the s**m I work with, when the puppy wets the carpet, gets fleas, cries for attention or anything else that annoys the aforementioned s**m. Sometimes an outraged neighbour grasses them up and the police goes round, mostly everyone stays because they are frightened of repercussions.
Poor puppy; at least he went peacefully and quickly.

How sad! The wee dobermann i have now is 10 months and i am her 5th (and last) home not including her breeder. she is totally lacking an education. she is such a quick learner and has picked up so much in the short time with us though. walking on the lead was just awful, she had no idea. she would bound ahead, haul, rear, spin. now she knows heel and can go a wee bit before forgetting herself. we just stop and come back to heel and when she pulls we just stop again. it is working. the worst thing is when she sees a dog and is on the lead, omg, totally embarrassing. we are working on it though and will get there.
i just wonder if this is why she has been passed on again and again. some people get these dogs and don't put time into training then get rid when they are unmanageable.
It must be awful for a vet to have to do that, they don't do that job to destroy healthy animals.
