I hate the bloody thing. It's a total blot on stunning countryside. I haven't heard it as loud as it was today before (obviously the storm ;)), but my Lad was really spooked by it from quite a distance. And he just doesn't spook much. It's right in the countryside, is an eyesore, and it is placed right beside a famous training yard - God knows how their new horses cope when they arrive.

Rant over.

We have plenty near us, flat fen land is ideal for them :) They make such a strange noise when it's been really windy and it puts Tess on edge, I think because she can hear this high pitch wooshing noise but cannot locate where it's coming from. I must say with time she has got used to it.

We had 8 massive turbines put in field behind yard this time last year. Horses haven't taken a blind bit of notice thankfully.

You only have one? We have a wind farm of 20 full size ones within a 3/4 mile of us, and the bloody landowner is trying to get planning for more (he makes £10k per year from each turbine, so you can see why!). I've just moved 2 of my horses here and they've not noticed them yet. I absolutely hate them, they look horrific but in NE Scotland sadly they are taking over - not many places can't see one anymore. I'm hoping to hack round them eventually, that's the only good thing - lots of tracks round them...

Well planning has just been turned down for two more - 34 metre pure white ones, but the applications are going in thick and fast. It seems to be a constant fight round here.

I too detest the things, so I really sympathise having so many round you. I was surprised by the amount of noise from just this one, and The Lad was really confused as to which direction it was coming from.

I know they are supposed to blend in with the sky, but wouldn't they look happier if they were painted like flowers? Green stems, yellow petals for example, like a field of giant sunflowers.
I hate them, the whooshing makes me headachey very quickly.

I was thinking this one in Whorlton (near A66)would be better in green ? Would blend in so much better. Whoever says they do not blot the landscape needs to come and look at this one. Every ride out, I look at it and think "HOW did they allow that HERE ?" The countryside line that has been the same for time everlasting is blighted by this Thing.

But now my Lad has spooked at it, I hate it even more.

I love them to look at but I admit it is easy for me to say as there isn't one near me so I don't have to listen to it. I think they are stunning though.

I like them too. My brother has 4 about a quarter of a mile from his house, and I love sitting in the garden (in summer), or the dining room (in winter!) and watching them.

quite like them as well :) we don't have any near the new place, 4 sprang up around hacking routes at the old place though. Never had any problems with the horses except once, on a very bright, windy day when the shadows were a source of consternation to the horse I had on loan. He wasn't bad with it, just needed some reassurance he wasn't about to step in a hole! same horse completely freaked one time though, on seeing a horse where he'd never seen one before-go figure.
