Hello all

sorry another rug question, I am looking for new light weights for my 2 for this coming winter and I don't want to spend masses on them as one of the horses is likely to out grow again by next year!

My mare normally has mark todds but I have been looking at either the MAsta Avante or Amigo mio, I know the Mio will be too short in the body for my boy but will be okay on the girl, so wondered what you guys think of Masta

I've not been a fan of them in the past as I had a leaky one that was massive on the girl, but that was about 12 years ago, so wondering if these rugs are any good and if their quality is better than they used to be??

My rugs tend to be Masta or Weatherbeta (and I have a lot of rugs!).

They've fit cobs, DWB, IDxTB, TB, NF, and something else, but I can't remember what :cool:

I don't think I've had a problem with any of them... If I have, it certainly wasn't drastic enough to lodge in my memory, which I think has to be good :D

I ended up not buying the Avante as the ones I looked at had the T shaped fittings at the front and I worry about these getting caught on things. Apart from that I liked the quality of them

I bought Loveson and Shires Tempest rugs for my pony, all under £55 and all got through the winter waterproof and undamaged

My friend bought a shires last yr and it was like a mini skirt on her horse and my boy has quite a big area to cover so know that wont fit him. Which is the problem with the amigo mio too. Had a rhinegold last winter and was too narrow on the chest and not that waterproof So would rather buy a better make this yr. might just have to spend out on mark todds then. Both horses have big chests so don't want any rubbing

Thanks for the advice

I too dont like the T bar fastenings at the front and they can be fiddly to do. If you want a cheaper rug thats ok then the Weatherbeeta Genero range is quite good. I had the heavyweight red one for my mare last Winter and it was pretty good, she lived out in it. They are a little short in fit, I mean length, my mare is normally a 6ft but I could have done with a 6' 3 so I would perhaps try the next size up. I wasnt disappointed with the rug atall, its washed up like new too..

I had the avante and the neck cover for my mare last winter. Found it great. She wore it all the time and its still perfect. Getting it cleaned to use again this year. Like another poster said they are small fit. My mare is 5 ft 6 usually and we had to get 5ft 9 in the avante.
