Masta Avante Pony Rug - good for youngsters?!

So I have been trying to find a cheap mediumweight turnout that will fit my pony.

He needs about 5'6 in length but his lightweight turnout (I have no idea what brand it is - cheap secondhand one bought from a charity) keeps slipping on his shoulders (so length is good but neck is too big). He does have a 5'3 cheapo travelling rug which is a very snug fit (hence my reluctance to buy 5'3 turnouts).

I'm really limited on funds (£40 is max, may be able to stretch a bit further) and with the fact he's still growing and his ability to destroy rugs by looking at them I don't want to be paying out for expensive rugs, when he will probably need a new wardrobe by next winter!

So I saw the Masta Avante Pony mediumweight and it looks like it has quite a high neckline - just wondering if anyone has any experience of these or can reccomend another brand?

Thanks

I honestly think masta turnouts are awful.

Amigo rugs suit youngsters, I have some and they are quite small around the neckline so good for my youngsters puny chests and shoulders ime.

I have tried researching and its a nightmare - everyone has so many differing opinions. I read one forum where everyone was raving about wb's and I was like - okay lets get him a wb. Then I read another forum and everyone is saying how wb have wide necks and you really need to be looking at Mastas!

I feel like the only way to figure out which one fits him is to march him into a tack shop and try them all on (I wish they had changing rooms for horses *sigh*). I can't afford to buy a load, try them on him and send back the ones that don;t fit - it also doesn't help that I have a broken ankle and can't get up to see him (He's going on loan on monday after my meeting with the Dr and discovering my insanely long recovery time :( ) so I need this rug before the weekend so he's all set for the next 6months!

He is just such a dumb shape. He's quite podgy around the belly (and gets podgier in winter!) but its the slipping on the neck that is the worry. And you just can't tell on the photos. I like the look of the Avante as it does look very high necked but I've heard good things about Amigo (It's just finding one that's in my price range!)

Seriously rug buying is so ridiculous. Why do they make them so many different shapes - or why don;t they put *this rug is really good for stupidly gangly youngsters where other rugs will usually slip off their shoulders* or *This rug is really good for big fat cobs hat you usually have to buy a chest expander for*

ugh. Rant over. sorry

I've just bought an Amigo Mio rug for £42 on peoples recommendations but that is a no fill one

I dont think the next one up was a great deal more though

I've also bought an Everest medium weight turnout for £37 which seems a lot of rug for the money but its not been properly used yet so I cant comment on it in use, apparently they arent very deep but my tubby sided skinny chested Welsh A looks fine in it

Never heard of everest - might have to have a nosey. I've just found an amigo on ebay for £40 so think I am swinging towards that one. Well i'll soon find out if it fits or not!

I was just about to post this exact thread! I bought a 5ft6 Kincade rug for my NF mare, fits in the body but hangs really low around her chest. They don't seem to have scaled it down for a pony, just made it shorter in length.

It will do as it's just a rain sheet but I need to get her a decent fitting winter rug as she loves out (just needs a MW with neck).
