As title really, debating which one to go for, I like the look of the check tech with the trivent gusset, but know weatherbeeta have a good reputation. The rug needs to be fairly hard wearing, anyone any experiences of the two? I like Amigo's but only the 1200D which are alot more money!!

I have got check techs found them really hardwearing and they fit well, I use them on my arab and my appaloosa who also have Rambos but I recently bought a Masta SRT for the appy and its fab I/we both love it so warm, excellent fit and I would buy again to replace any rugs in the future, I got mine from Jennys Tack shop in Bristol but they are also on e-bay so if you look them up they may have more in stock.

I have a Masta checktech half neck and two weatherbeetas for one of my mares, so far they have all lasted over 2 years and this will be the third Winters wear out of them, they have all done well. The only repair so far has been a broken clip on a leg strap. My bunch Winter out so they get good wear. I found the filling in the checktech has stayed and not thinned out like some rugs do which quite surprised me considering she has probably worn it the most.

i swear by weatherbeetas - i have landa, orican and taka - all excellent.

I was warned off Masta by a good friend and have never been able to bring myself to buy one since!

Definetly get a Weatherbeeta I have got some that are 12 years old and still going. Masta are poor quality and hardly fit anything, stay well clear of Masta. If you do a search on here you will see many reports regarding their poor fit and quality. Our local tack shop wont sell them any more as they have had so many returned.

Weatherbeeta are one of the most popular rugs used today and are not over priced.

I have had Masta's in the past and found they didnt last and didnt fit very well, always pulling back at the shoulders.

I use Weatherbeeta Landa combos on mine now and think they are brilliant, deep sides, cover the backend well, dont slip or pull, hard wearing, and not expensive.

weetherbeater orcian.. think robinsons rideaway or deby house have them down to 66 quid from a 100... with detachable necks.

if you cant find them at the price say and will have a look.. very annoying as i paid 91 quid 2 weeks ago for one argggggg:mad:

Weatherbeeta are too narrow for my pony so i'm not a fan as they don't fit her at all! (14hh connie x id mare)

I quite like Masta's but after extensive umming and ahhhing I bought a amigo 600d for her medium (she has the 1200d heavy). Yes I prefer the 1200d but actually you know what? the 600d isn't that bad!

Edited to add I bought her Amigo 600d from Rideaway just before Christmas, they are on sale and came very prompt!

I would not use a masta rug if you gave it to me. I have never liked the fit of them. Weatherbeeta rugs are a good fit, true to size and value for money. Only thing I would say though is that the Landa is only a 600d outer weight fabric. Go for the Takka or Orican which would stand upto a bit more of a bashing!! lol

The 1200d Amigo's are great as well. My connie x lives in them and they have never rubbed him once.

I use weatherbeetas combo landa on my mare and the only problem I have had is that after 3 years they seem to let the water in, but fit and everything else very good. I prefer the freestyle as the tail peice is much bigger and better fit, she lives out all year so they get good usage.

Thank you for all your replies, yes I was looking at the orican or taka but the 220grm filling is the weight rug I'm more after, it offers me more versatility as can do the autumn months by itself but will take another layer underneath for winter use! I've used my 1200D amigo this year and it's brilliant, if anyone can find me a medium 1200d amigo plus at around £50-60 in a 6'9 or 7' I'd be well happy! I am surprised that neither shires or weatherbeeta or masta for that matter! do a higher Denier medium weight rug! Having said that the landa's that 2 of the horses at our yard have stand up to a fair amount of rough play and are still going strong.

Interesting, I have 2 Check Techs and fit my horse great. both bought used and are very waterproof and give him lots of room around his large shoulder and wither. Had a weatherbetta for my other horse and was not as roomie and the horse put 2 holes in it.
