Took my lovely pony to her first show of the year yesterday- just an unaff dressage outing at Allens Hill, where she did a lovely test in prelim 15 (long arena! Eeep!) and came 3rd with 60%- just 1 point off 2nd and about 3 points off first!! This was an unaff class mixed in with BD classes so a BD judge and most of the people in my class also did the affiliated ones so was quite proud of my little bog pony who used to come dead last last year!

No photos of that as dad the photographer didn't come, but today we took her to Solihull to do the 2"9ft and 3ft unaff sj. It was absolutely rammed! About 50 per class, which meant we were very early and managed to watch alot of riders in the class before mine- so many naughty horses out today!

Finally got on and Gizmo behaved inpeccibly in the very busy warm up! Was hardly room to canter so didn't do too much with her, just popped a few jumps when I could and went in.
She jumped a lovely round, she seems to have settled a lot, although was still very "up for it"! Much better with her head though, which she used to throw around a lot infront of the fences, and we managed to keep a half decent rhythm around the course. Managed to go double clear and into 2nd place! Slowly got knocked down and finished in 5th, but out of a huge class so I was really happy!

Entered the 3ft and decided to go for it a bit in the jump off as I've never really tested her before, she was a star, even better with her mouth in this round and just got abit wrong into the last to have it down, oops! Total rider error!

She needs a lot of gridwork to sort out her rubbish jumping style ;) but I am back to uni tomorrow so wont be doing much with her until easter.

Very proud of my little bog pony :) Will take on board any CC as we certainly need it, but bare in mind we havent jumped in a LONG time, and she has improved a hell of a lot since last year!

You've done a fab job with her :D She looks great, and looks like she loves her jumping. I don't know that much about jumping but I think once you've done some gridwork and she learns to sit back on her hocks a bit more instead of running, she won't get so close to the jumps in front :)

She looks super and very confident.

the main CC i think is to make sure you sit up right to take off point as you get a little ahead of her on the last 1-2 strides and that is sometimes causing the awkward jumps where she is getting a little close and flat.
You need to make sure she has room for her shoulders to lift up before you go forwards into jumping position and that should also help with her shape over the fence.

She is turning into a little cracker though and I think you should have a good season to look forward to :)

Thanks everyone! Thanks for the CC, I agree massively and that's a main point I picked up on when I left the ring- I noticed I dropped her into the bottom of the fences a few times, particularly in the second class. Don't know where this habit has come from, but good clever gizmo for sorting herself out without numpty on top making it hard for her! I do often wonder how brilliant she'd be if she had a good rider on top, I do her no justice at all!
And re sitting her back on her hocks a bit more, I agree- she's still quite green and I can't jump her at home as no ménage- she just gets hacked out! So find it difficult to do any grid work at the moment, although when I can I'm sure it will help her massively as she is so honest and willing, just needs fine tuning slightly ;)
