I am thinking of using Masterpiece - has anyone had any experience(opinions) of him? Mare is a light weight TB and this will be her first foal. Please PM me if you prefer. Thanks

What are you trying to breed and can we have a piccie of your mare?

Ive got a rising 3yr old (see below) and AimeeC has one eventing at Novice level and bred another one last year

Lovely conformation, quite short coupled, maybe a little thick through the neck, but has added a nice amount of substance on to my mare who is fairly lightweight. My chap is a bit straight through the hock, but so is Mum.

Forgot to say, he is very fertile, was my mares first foal and she took first time, but been told thats very common for him. We did fresh AI at Willesley

Personally i think my chap is lovely, but them im biased!

I never would have thought of using Masterpiece until I saw him in the flesh when I was at Willesley one day and it was love at first sight and ended up putting two of my mares to him, my Goodtimes/Landadel/Alme mare had a stunning coloured colt (pics of him being born in my siggy) and my Lancelot(Rubinstein)/Nimmerdor mare had a stunning HUGE bay colt... VERY happy with both foals

having a tough time deciding which one to keep and which one to sell as they are both really nice

I have met a few by him. They are really nice, trainable horses and I think they are brilliant amateurs horses but I do not think they are world beaters. I think he would be ideal on a sharp mare.

ive got a sharp mare, and now got a sharp 3yr old!! may all be from the mare, but he has always been pretty on the ball about everything! Time will tell, he will be off to be broken in the summer

Stockwise i think they are very smart, and mine looks to be a lovely type at the moment. I do think Masterpiece has been used to produce nice coloured show horses, and not had necessarily many top competition mares, i know some of the stock which was there whilst my mare was being covered would not my choice! I think he is becoming more popular now, esp as he has got stock on the ground out competing and doing well

Been to see him today, definately going to use him on our mare - she's a French TB and quite fine, hoping he'll supply a bit of substance. Mare has been sj to disco and BE novice level. He seems very laid back, and seem a very nice "person". Not using him for his colour, that is an added bonus - if we get a coloured foal then great, if not we wont be disappointed.

Hi, He is lovely in the flesh isnt he!

I know of 3 Materpiece off spring eventing tricky business (mine), Fitzwarren Dexter, well placed novice and Intermediate and Master Brandel, won Novice.

Mine (Frankie) Won a novice last season and has been well placed at PN and Novice level, now aiming for NRF's and Intermediate this season. He was out of a new forest x mare (bay) who was a happy hacker.

He has a lovely temperment and is so friendly and trainable which is the reason we used masterpiece on our maiden mare who also got in foal AI first time!

This was Frankie this month

Nico is rising two now and a lovely chap, he is very laid back (the mare is quite Hot!) he has been in hand showing, had a saddle and bridle on and I sat on him for the first time a month ago, he didnt flinch!

Masterpiece has really improved on her weak spots, Nico is nice and compact and has def inherited Dad calm outlook on life!

cant resist a baby pic - sorry photo overload!

what gorgeous piccies. Our mare is bay, but we do have a coloured gelding so would really like a coloured foal, but hey, as long as "it" is healthy I don't mind. Really looking forward to next year's baby (assuming she takes!!)

Hi there, I used to work at Willesley and so have been involved with Masterpiece on several occasions. He is a super horse and I wouldn't hesitate to use him. He has a great attitude and is really well mannered (was never frightening for the mare during covering so good for a maiden). His fantastic temperament means he'd be great for flightier mares, and all his offspring seem to be doing really well. Put that with great conformation and talent and you can't go wrong!
