hi

i need to purchase a half wool lined numnah in pony size that i can insert pads to the rear to lift the back of the saddle slightly to allow ponys muscle to redevelop (this has been advise by a master fitter)

i have tried him in the mattes one, but having priced it up its about £150

looked on ebay for a second hand one to no joy :( found a liemux pro-sorb that looks good but they only do medium or large- do you think the medium will be massive on a 15inch saddle?

anyone know of an alternative?

thanks

Could you not make your own? I needed to do something similar (and on a budget!) to a sidesaddle to make it fit a horse that was only going to wear it for a one off - I just basically chopped a numnah into a half pad shape, and stitched it onto the top of a normal numnah and left one end open so I could stick some inserts in, which were these chopped to size to lift only the required area: http://www.decathlon.co.uk/shock-absorbing-foam-back-pad-id_8010240.html

It's a real shame that Mattes only do sheepskin on these pads now - I used to sell wool lined half pads for £99 but prices will have to go up massively for sheepskin lined ones unfortunately :(. If you can split open a regular pad then I'd still recommend you use the Mattes shims, or other similar felt - the foam etc versions are just not the same.

If you are handy with a needle could you not sew some fybagee shims to your existing numnah, especially as it is a temporary need. You can trim it to the exact shape needed and layer it so that there are no hard lumps at the edges.
I've done this - on advice of a saddle fitter who showed me the exact size and place to put it.
