Mattes sheepskin saddlecloth/numnah owners......

How do you wash them? It cost more that the horse is worth

and I dont want the sheepskin to go flat!

To everyone that hasnt got one, they are bloody amazing.......I have had many sheepkin (cheaper) cloths/pads (even a bartyl one) and you cannot compare to a mattes platinum pad. Horses back has no crinkle ridges on his back even after 3 hours ridden and he doesnt sweat under it. Genuinely, he is so much more comfortable!..................Mattes plug over

I wash mine in a Persil wool & silk liquid in the machine on the wool cycle, then brush it when dry.

i heard some people cover them with human hair conditioner and whack them in the wash on the wool cycle... ??

Dont use powder, only liquid wash specially for wool. Nuumed do some for about £5. Powder clogs the fibres and reduces the ability to absorb sweat.

Wash mine on a wool cycle, 30* then brush with a fine wire brush comes up like new.

Cover with hair conditioner first (cheap is fine - I use Tesco's value @ 30p a bottle on mine!!) and then wash using a wool washing liquid. Mine still look as good as new!!

Good advice - I was guilty of spoling one - might treat my boy to a new one now you've convinced me they CAN be cared for

I wash at 30 or 40 wool setting, but will try the conditioner and liquid at 30 after reading this

Silk and wool liquid on wool wash - never had a problem - haven't found a conditioner that horse isn't allergic to so don't dare try that!
