I thought I would give you all an update on my boy, since I had him a year yesterday - do not know where the time has gone!
we have not done much over the winter really, since our DTM debut in October. we have no arena and ground has just been too wet.
have done no winter jumping at all, in fact, had not even been over a pole since our ODE in September, so thought had better get out and do some jumps.
Three weeks ago I hired a local arena and did a grid work session with a lovely friend - had some fun, still got to work on our straightness and being together, but he was such a good boy and tried his hardest, popped the jumps like they were not there.
A week later went to April Farm (lovely local venue, huge arena with full show jump course set up) had a group session booked with four of us and lovely local trainer, all of us had baby horses.
had a brilliant time, he never spooked at a thing, all sorts of fillers, water trays you name it!
we made a few mistakes, mostly me not setting up properly and had a few poles at first, but super pleased with him, jumped a lovely 90cm or so, last round.
I have just got to practice practice practice and plan better all the way around the course!
Finally, last weekend our riding club had their very first AGM and had booked Chris Burton ( 4 star eventer) to do grid and jump clinics all day for members.
so I took the opportunity and booked us into the 90-100cm session, cue being slightly worried about making a fool of ourselves.
I should not have worried, was in a lovely group of people and had a fantastic time, I really liked Chris, in fact he got on Max to demonstrate something to my group!
gave us lots of homework to take away, but was very encouraging as well.
his note on my card when I got his autograph later that evening was, poles, poles, poles and more poles!
we still have lots of things to work on , especially on the flat, he can be very wiggly and not forward enough at times, our left canter strike offs are a bit hit and miss, I put that down to lack of straightness and maybe me being a bit one sided, so I do need to get some one on one lessons and really work on that now nights are getting lighter!
having said that his counter canter is lovely and balanced....lol
any suggestions on better getting the correct strike off more than welcome!
will try to post couple of links below from the showjumping day and the CB clinic. if anyone is interested
