Hi All,

Last showing class - ridden coloured the judge said my chap would be fabby in Maxi Cobs! i have no idea what this is and unsure what that means - normally in our area we have a cob class - so would he be in with them all as he is quite a bit bigger than most - also would I have to hog him as would rather not as I like also trying the ridden hunter class - so would look odd if hogged in there!

Any thoughts advice please as not come across maxi cob classes!!!

I'm not really a showing person, so just my opinion, but I went to look at a horse with someone once, and the horse had done very well in affiliated showing in maxi cob classes. She was very similar in type to yours... May be worth having a look at some affiliated shows and seeing what you think.

At local level most cob classes are just cob - so all types can go in. Yours should do well in that too.

I would think she would do better in cob than hunter.

How tall is he? HW hunter if he's over 17hh or maxi cob if under would be my vote- not that I know much about those showing classes

Hmmm tough one - his ridden picture makes me think he's far too leggy for a cob and should be a HW hunter. Yet...the stood up picture makes me go maybe cob...

First of all, what level are you showing at? I've only seen maxi cob classes at higher level county shows at the moment, so if you're just doing local/rc shows then you'll be struggling for classes if you hog him.

I would hold back on hogging and just show him plaited in a few maxi cob classes, see how he gets on with the judges. If you find he's been quite sucessful and decide to stick with them, you can then hog him. It won't affect the marks tremendously.

Hi Thanks

Just local riding club and local other shows so nothing major - one main county show per year.
Agree have not seen classes for maxi cobs hence why I was not sure.

He can be deceptive as standing up he looked much shorter and chunkier than in ridden picture - where is is rather light for his size.

TBH think at the level we do we shall just carry on with ridden hunters and colours for now.......
Will take on board the idea of cob classes but plaited!! Could see what feedback we get, most schedules say hogged and trimmed though!

I would stick to h/w hunter classes. A beautiful horse but I don't think 'cobby' enough for maxi-cob, especially if you don't want to hog.

Good luck - I imagine you will do very well!
