My girl does not have an ounce of malice but can be strong in a headcollar. Does anyone rate the Maxwell pressure halters or is there anything else I can try to get her to respect my space more and be more attentive? She does not have any issues re rearing, etc. I would like to do some groundwork with her in hand but don't necessarily want to always use a bridle.

PS She is not ridden at moment cos of previous lameness and is in foal.

I use one (well a copy of one) for training groundwork and loading - and once the horse understands that THEY create the pressure, not you, it is very effective. But do read up on how to use, or get somebody to show you - the key to success is in the releasing and rewarding - not using it to punish or create force

Yes I am aware of that - I actually witnessed Richard Maxwell getting my friend's horse to load with one of those halters - it took probably 3 minutes after we had probably spent 12 hours solidly over the last few weeks! Since then she has been fine and my friend did have a halter but lost it.

SInce then the horse has been a good loader. Just trying to decide whether to get one or not.
