I have finally plucked up the courage to take Tarquin on his first RIDDEN public appearence. After nearly 7 months now of slowly getting him around to the idea the being ridden isn't a big deal, he seems to be coping well. I can now hack out on my own without having a major tantrum and haven't hit the ground in long *touches lots of wood*. Despite some people at my yard (well one really) not wanting to let on, my hacking buddy informed me that the next pleasure ride in the park where we keep the horses is on February 10th and that she and the other one had already entered. Its 25k which does seem a long way for a first time out but as it requires no travelling to get to and Tarquin's best mate is doing it I thought it'd be worth a stab. None of our horses are hugely fit so my friend had said she just wanted to walk and trot anyway, which suits me as we still have't grasped a reasonable canter. He seemed fine in company at the show we went to last September and wasn't bothered by lots of ponies milling about as long as he could see his best mate so hopefully he'll behave himself. I wimped out of the last one as I knew there would be lots of cantering involved and to ask the others to trot instead seemed unfair. I know its over a month away but have sent the form off, am getting Mr T clipped and will try to fit in some more riding and generally steeling myself for the event, may need a hip flask to calm me down I think or failing that some valium! Updates to come!

Definately am mad after todays performance, went out on my own and met his girlfriend coming the other way, he was quite good about walking past her but got so far on then reared up, spun round and did the off towards home. I stopped him, he reared again and tried to go another route but he said NO v. firmly. I didn't have the energy to fit him and he was v upset so went home but did get his girlfriends rider to come out with us for a short hackette so he didn't think that tantrumming meant he didn't have to go any work. Am so gutted he hadn't reared in months but remembered it very quickly today. v. depressed.
