... if I don't I'll probably blub!

Quick scenario - bought very good horse for family member... after a few years my circs changed and I no longer had my own yard and funds to keep/compete said horse... 'gifted' horse to said family member as assurance he would have a good home for life.

Now.. 2 years on he's for sale, aged 17 and not competed for a good while - £4K, which is far too much but there you go.

Yes, I am stupid and probably should treat members of the family as I would Joe public, but I feel so sad and miserable. Maybe the lottery will come up this weekend as I would gladly give £4K just to assure the poor horse of a home.

Sorry, had to share as OH just rants and has declared war on my family!

Oh dear, "family" can = trouble. Do you have funds to keep the horse at the moment? If you do and can offer something towards purchase then you have to try. You will have to be very tactful about 4k not being realistic though. Not sure what else to suggest, good luck and hope the horse finds a good home soon.

Oh thank you for your kind words, the poor chap 'was' Grade A SJ, but done ****** all for a long while. My fear is that he will become a 'motorbike' for a local pot hunter. He's a sweet and genuine boy but not in any shape or form a 'hack' or family horse. I would go so far as to say that got fit (or overfed) he would be quite a problem for the inexperienced owner/rider!

Sadly, for health, age and financial reasons, I no longer have resources or facilities to keep any other animals, the lottery may yet save me (some hope!!!)

Ah. Family can be so much fun... :(

I'd hope that he comes to realise £4k is way too much (ie when the phone doesn't ring) and drops the price. Have you got any friends who are looking who you could point in his direction?
