Just heard that Mcguigan was put down yesterday at Newmarket after a tumour was discovered. He was a real tough little eventer who didnt deserve that. My condolences to Alister and Jeanette who will really miss him.

Oh gosh, thats terrible news! Such a shame to lose a really smart stallion, he was on my shortlist last year!! Best Wishes to Alistair, he must be utterly gutted

OMG that is awful!! He was such a cool little dude, I am so sorry for all his connections.
Hopefully there are a fair few people about that have his babies on the ground...

What a shame. I really liked McGuigan and was hoping to use him on my broodmare next year.

Hi sire Furisto was imported into the UK by my great friend Marie Smith who also bred Rylandes Tacta (Ragusa's mum).

Furisto was thought to have very low fertility at the beginning but they discovered that he had hurt his back playing up as a youngster so jumping up on the mare hurt him so much that he never ejaculated :-(. Eventually they managed to get his back right, his stud career flourished and he competed successfully as a showjumper with David Bowen. He was then sold to Ireland as a stallion (I think he was imported even before Cavalier Royale and Henk's stallions so was much the trend setter) and McGuigan was one of the results.

BTW, I think someone on one of the Futurity report threads noticed that I withdrew when their mare by Carmel Head with a foal at foot was being assessed. I did this because I was in partnership as an owner of CH who had actually been bought as a 4 year old off the racecourse by Marie to stand at stud along side her other stallion Domsberg. (she had another TB stallion too who was quite successful but I am afraid I cannot remember his name).

Thanks for that info re Furisto - we have a 7 year old Novice eventer by Cruising - bought out of Ireland - his dam was by Furisto. He should really go show jumping as he has a fabulous jump (and they would probably pay a lot of money for him) - but my daughter events and she loves him to bits!
