To all the people who have had a McTimoney to their horse.......
Did the McTimoney see the horse walked up and trotted up before they started treatment?
Did they fill in any paperwork including age of horse and what level of work they were in or ask if there was any problems?
Did they work over the whole of the horse or just certain areas?
Does anybody know if there is a standard routine that they should use?
The reason I ask is that I had one out at the weekend and it did not seem to be the same as one I had had before that was very thorough.
Sorry if I sound like a McTimoney bore but I am a bit disappointed thats all.

Yep, horse walked & trotted up prior to any treatment.
Yes, lots of paperwork including all that you said, age, use, any problems etc.
Worked over all the horse, but only actually treated problem areas.
Very thorough indeed.

Does that help at all?!

Hi *waves* I'm studying McTimoney and have had McTimoney people out to my horses in the past....

Not all see the horse walked/trotted up - i only do this if i have never seen the horse before, or have something i want to see specifically.
I would expect most to at least jot some notes down, i have a specal sheet that all the horse stats and what i find etc etc...
I would do preliminary checks that involves the whole body and move onto more thorough work through problem areas.
We are taught a certain way of doing things (i do McTimoney Corley which is ever so slightly different) but most people (or so im told) get into their own way of working.

If you have concerns i would suggest you talk to the practitoner....

Hope that helps.

Yes, thats what the old one I had before did. She was very thorough.
The one I had at the weekend walked into horses stable, just asked what I did with her. No paperwork, no other questions?

She went straight into working on her back for no longer than 2 minutes, moved to the loins both sides and then checked her pelvis was level by standing her up square on an uneven thick bed?? Said it was fine. I mentioned that I thought it was out as she dipped badly right in walk when looked at from behind. She again said she was level and that there were no problems. She then said that she would see her walked across the yard - went 6 strides and said yeah it's out a bit and hoiked the back leg up and had another look. Had a quick look at the neck, no checks on the poll? and said that I would be well to use the Niagara Massager I had bought to loosen her neck a bit?

How on earth can anybody assess a horse without seeing it move?
I am annoyed with myself now for not saying anything. The horse is no better whatsoever and she said she would like to see her in 3 months????

Do you think I should ring her and have a word or just get somebody else? My OH is going mad as it is £45 wasted - he said I may as well of threw it into the wind!

Did the McTimoney see the horse walked up and trotted up before they started treatment? Yes and turned on a tight circle, but she was treating them for specific problems.
Did they fill in any paperwork including age of horse and what level of work they were in or ask if there was any problems? Yes, although my therapist already knew my horses, there were problems I want to discuss with her. I also got a detailed chart of everything she had done, which she explained to me, and was told what follow up exercise I would need to do.
Did they work over the whole of the horse or just certain areas? Wherever manipulation was needed.

no, my lady doesn't do all that unless i am reporting a specific problem, but she's seen all my horses lots of times now.
yes, i'd be disappointed. i'd call and say there's no improvement at all in the horse, and you want her to come back and complete the treatment.

The lady that see's my horses had them trotted up the first couple of times and turned on a tight circle etc. She doesn't do that now, but takes vast amounts of notes and we discuss the problems we are having (if any) before she treats. She then usually checks over the whole horse and treats the bits that need treating. She's very good - I don't know what I'd do if I had to find someone else!

I have a highly qualified McTimony Chiropractor, because she is only there to treat specific problems which have been diagnosed by the vet - potentially in discussion with her. She will walk on the yard give a 5 minute check in the stable, then treat the problem - which will take 10 minutes or so. I then give her £50(ish) and she goes.
I don't use her to diagnose problems unless the vet has decided there's an issue which requires specialist care.
She is certainly far too expensive and not the best person for therapeutic massage, which for my horses is a 'nice to have' but not essential. For that I would use a Physio who specialises in sports massage.
I wouldn't ever use a manipulator.

Then I don 't have the 'back' problems which seem to manifest themselves in so many people's horses.......

Yes I also use a physio, I actually find both physio and mctimoney invaluable, although I am lucky that I usually have them on site as my yard is an animal therapy centre.

Thanks everybody for all your replies. I think I will give her a ring and request my money back. I dont really want her to come out again as I feel that if she couldnt or wasnt able to complete treatment on the day then why would she be any better another day?
I have been given the number of another one that sounds thorough so will try her instead.
Thanks again
