A friend of mine has recommended I get a McTimony (sp) practitioner out to see my horse who has problems with his pelvis. (Muscles around his pelvis are very weak as he was left in a small field for a long time before I bought him, this also is affecting his sacroilic joint)

Incidentally, I found out our saddle fitter is also qualified in this field and she had a quick probe and said he would benefit from a session (and I'm guessing a few more sessions after...)

Anyone got any experiences to share? How does this differ from Physio?

No real 'experiences' to offer per se, but I've used a McTimoney chiropractor for both my horses and my own bones! I certainly felt the difference and was pretty uneven on both occasions, I was visably an inch longer on one leg/hip at the start of my treatment.

That was over ten years ago and I've since been back to another lady, who also helped following a broken ankle, worked wonders.

I plan to see one again once I'm fixed from my latest bone crunching.

I also have my horses checked over every so often, thankfully they are not as clumsy/broken as me!

Have a look at their website if you want to know more:

I think it is fab, though it think it depends alot on the ability of the practitioner as well as the method itself. Our Mctimony lady also does bowen, and she is utterly fantastic. Really considering the horse as a whole and taking account of every aspect of their movement, care regieme, vet history, condition of their feet etc. Also, instead of simply treating as she finds she considers reasons for the niggles she finds so that we can address what causes them as well as treating them at the time. I don't think I would have much time for someone who fixed what they saw and then just left you to get on with it. As sure as eggs are eggs you will have them out again for just the same prob in time!
We have had physios out too, but we find our current lady the best.
If they are recommended I would go with them and see how your horse is after. Oh mare can be a little sore for a couple of days after, then you can really tell the difference and she feels way better. If your horse feels better after a treatment then that tells you all you need to know!

I had used a normal chiro for years and they never fixed my problem and were always cracking me about, this would be twice a week. Last year I met a wonderful man who does McTimony, he sorted my back out a treat! He also does all kinds of animals ranging from horses, dogs, tigers, wolves etc. He has been asked to do the Olympics but has decided not to treat the humans, he is solely doing the horses.

With this in mind I asked him to come out to my lads last night, he was amazing. One of my lads had 9 months box rest with collateral ligament damage, then had a GA for arthroscopy to both stifles due to OCD, in June. He normally comes out of his box very stiff behind and can't track up - still it is early days! After his session last night he was freer, tracking up and looked totally sound!

My other horse wasn't bad but was slightly dishing on his right hind, an adjustment was made and he is totally straight now.

The lad who had the op will need to be seen in 2 weeks and then probably not for 6/12 months, my other one wont need to be looked at for probably 12 months unless something happens.

It really is lovely that they do not throw horses and everything is a nice gentle movement. My chap also said that horses are not like humans and do not need lots of treatments.

Give it a go, both of mine had adjustments for rotation of the pelvis and my friend's horse had rotation and tilting, he also had 4 vertebrae at the end of his spine that didn't seem to connect with the rest, this was due to the way the muscles had moved and tensed. All sorted in a few minutes and horse went from being down and depressed and shuffling along to alert, striding out and straight in his back.

I can recommend 100%

We have our horses and dogs done, luckily my sister is McTimoney trained.

Her horse has had back problems previously, which was why she got into it and she can now keep him in tip top condition. He's just started eventing again, after she believed he wouldn't be able to anymore. He's not at such a high level, but he's going really well.

My loan horse was so wonky!! But is now looking much better and is a lot more free moving through his back. He was very one sided and didn't like working on the right, but is now working much more evenly.

Luckily my old boy never really needed anything done, but was always good to keep him in check to make sure no problems would rise.

They both need ongoing treatment, but it's completely worth it!

One of my dogs was diagnosed with Spondylosis at a very young age (just turning 2) so she has her back done which helps her to keep moving too. The vet said she'd only live another year, but she's still going and there is no slowing her down! - My OH is also a Canine Hydra therapist, so she has had treatment from him previously.

Give it a go, you have nothing to loose and lots to gain :)
