Baaaad Harvey pups. His evaluation for the end of Dogskool was going so well...right up until he ran off to the other dogs on his recall test!

I was sooo mortified! He didn't even head remotely towards me. The girl was holding him, he was jumping all over her for a fuss and I was told to call him. Should've known better really as I didn't remotely have his attention and I don't think he even saw where I'd gone.

Buggerations! I felt a fool. He is never on a lead at home and has 100% recall.

At the free play session at the end he was busy playing with all the pups and was the first to come back when everyone started calling them. Sadly I couldn't get any bonus points...it was too late!

We will wear our Dunce caps and sulk. :(

Aw, bless him, but in fairness he has a lot more under his belt than a lot of other pups I know of a similar age :) he is allowed the odd transgression.

The last mock test we did before the real thing, B did a **** in the middle of the heelwork and spent the long down on his back rolling around with his legs in the air and wailing :o

It's just annoying because he's spot on every time (or was up until tonight). Looking back I should've made the point of taking him to the woman to hold (Hannah my daughter did and he never looked back at all or saw me move to the end point). I honestly don't think he knew where I was, although I realise that sounds like I'm making excuses. As soon as I called he made a beeline for the other dogs...where I had been standing before he left me to go to the helper.

I don't think they expected much either. They just laughed and said it was his big ears muffling my voice.

He was spot on with the sit, sit-stay, down, down-stay, twirl and lead work. Infact, she said our stay was by far the best there.

GAH!

Harvey when you mum calls go to her :) i know how puppies can show you up in class Gizmo does everything at home and as soon as he is in class he shows me up he wont even wait in class but will do it all day at home.

I'm still sulking. I wanted a distinction certificate!

I think our twirl was the best too as I didn't need to use a treat to create it....but whilst I'm sulking, I might as well bemoan the show off JRT that did it's twirl on it's hind legs only and won the challenge for the novelty factor! Yes it was very cute...but I can still go PAH!

Awww he is only a baby and there were lots of things to interest him more than you!!;):D:D:D

I think he did really well for a baby spangle:cool::) - I didn't take Sweep to classes until he was a year old due to the attention span of a goldfish!! :eek:Luckily there were two labs, a husky and a skinny dog there that made him look well behaved......;):D:D:D

Well, you would get a spaniel...:D:D:D

***Patches blows a big sloppy raspberry at Spudlet***

Oi...who asked you your opinion anyway? :p:p:p :D:D:D ;););)

Only kidding....I know, I know. I am really pleased with him in all honesty. For a dog that is rarely walked on a lead, his lead work was excellent, as were all of his other basic commands. He now sits quietly next to me whilst the instructor is talking to us all and is generally a really nice dog.

I didn't expect him to recall from free play, but he was over to me like a shot. I just think he was genuinely confused at the recall test....and let's face it...it doesn't take much to confuse an airhead show spaniel does it?:rolleyes:

I should remember, he is only five months old today. :D

LOL...interestingly the only other Spaniel dropped out after a few weeks as they simply couldn't control it and gave up.

Perhaps they should award their certificates based on a handicap system! :D:D:D

Oh the joys of dog training! Evies best friend at our puppy training class was a spangle, they used to wind each other up and I could never get her to walk past him without at the very best a squeak and all 4 paws off the ground from her. The worst was when she leapt on him and they ended up rolling round the floor together with the leads all tangled up.:o Luckily he didn't carry on with the later classes (don't think Evie was to blame) so we were okay after that. As others have said Harvey is doing really well for such a baby, and ti does sound as if he just got a bit confused. You'll just have to get the distinction in the next classes.;)

Oh dear MM. That sounds a bit "eeeeeeep"! :)

I'm not sure what to do about the next class. For a starters it's 8 - 9pm which I think is a little late for me. It's full at the moment and isn't a next stage, as such, it's just a "dog club". You pay for eight weeks in advance and I got the impression the course didn't particularly end and you could continue to subscribe...unless you decided to stop going. They do a bit of everything and it sounded more "fun" that constructed training.

I wanted to work towards the Bronze, Silver and Gold "Good Citizen Awards" - or don't they (any dog training group) do them anymore?

Bit of a loss now.
