Interesting. My thoughts are that M E-S has a lot of experience at designing courses, yes, sometimes there are fences that raise eyebrows but i'm not sure that this fence is that much different to anything that has say flower boxes on the ground. I looked at the fence before reading the text and couldn't really decide what was wrong with it, but then I am not there and i'm also not jumping it!
However, as it had already been passed by the ground jury, I can understand why he was a little angry.
tbh she did have a real point, if the stones were close together (can't tell from photo)... there was a fence at Bonn-Rodderberg in 2000 iirc which had stones all along the front, a British horse stopped at it and got its fetlock caught between two stones and wrenched/fractured its fetlock, had to be pts.
i was more upset about them taking out fences, incl the direct hard route at the phoenix nests - if i read the photos right the direct route was 2 fences on an angle (bounce or stride, couldn't tell) with a time-consuming long route.
