How do you do it, if indeed you can do it?

Chloe's snaffle leaves very little room either side, and have just read on a site that there should be 1/2 inch between each side of the horses mouth and the bit...

do you think I should up a size and go for a 6" instead of 5.5 one, or is there are really good way of finding out instead of guessing?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Sprenger (if spelt right) will provide you with a measuring gage if you requset one....or speak to your local retailer and ask them if they would get you one from them.....I used to be a retailer and they used to give them away free and are very useful

I put in a bit that I know the size of and guess. That's probably not the best way, but seems to work well for me.

Ahhh, no it works for some, but the bit I'm looking to buy is quite expensive, so don't want to get it wrong!

I use a wooden spoon handle and put rubber martingale stops on either side, put the spoon handle in horses mouth, close the rubber stops against the side of mouth then you will have your measurement!!
