Off the back of the post on the main section, someone indicated that dodgy practices also happen to get dogs to measure in.

I have never heard this before.

Is this in sports like agility? Or showing to meet the breed standard? Or both?

Is it similar vile practices with horses like excessive exercise and withholding water ?

When we host breed shows we bring the weighing scales out and the dogs are measured on that, as it is hard and level. Lots of stories about standing dogs in depressions in the ground, downhill etc 😅

I joked with a friend about making sure she hadn't fed and watered her very very borderline dog and taken it on a long walk with a heavy backpack before its last measure but it was just that, I'm not aware of anybody actually attempting things like that. You might be able to influence the outcome a teensy bit by making sure your dog is accustomed to standing on the board/table and having the hoop go over, tensing up or backing off might change a few millimetres.

This is for agility, I don't think many breeds are routinely weighed or measured at shows now, I seldom see it in a catalogue.
