Has anyone had a lesson on one of these?, are they helpful and do they help when you get back on the real thing, we have one at a yard about 5 mins from me and they charge £20 for half an hour, does this sound reasonable?. any info will be much appreciated.

edited as i can't spell even when i use spell check

We have one.
Their usefulness depends a lot on the ability of the instructor to use it effectively. If it's a good instructor then theyre invaluable.
£20 sounds fine, pretty reasonable if the instructor is any good

I had a lesson on one, and then rode my horse afterwards and it made a huge difference to how my horse went! I should go back and have another lesson really. They're really good for letting you concentrate 100% on your position.

Just having a generally good instructor is ok, but you really need someone who really knows how to use their teaching tools. One of my instructors wouldn't be able to teach on a mechanical horse for toffee, but my other instructor (Boss's sister as it happens) is flipping fantastic with it. Very clever lady and I learn a lot every time I sit on Lancelot. Well worth a try IMO
