I know him quite well cos he stands alongside my stallion at Cliveden Stud.
'Hootie' is just about the nicest horse you could ever wish to meet - calm, sensible, kind, a perfect gentleman. (They even use him sometimes to tease my stally's mares for him, cos my boy gets wound-up and Hootie doesn't.)
He is also very well put-together - compact, strong, substantial but not lacking in quality. Nice paces (not spectacular movement, but free, straight and correct), big jump, great workmanlike attitude. He is an Intermediate Eventer - only a couple of points off Advanced.
From those I know and have heard of, his foals all seem to inherit his lovely temperament as well as his other good qualities and talents.
Yes, I think he would. I'm assuming this is a rather unflattering photo of the mare - just had a foal and not looking her best! The pic probably does not do her justice.
But having said that, I think he would improve the bone and substance, give a longer hip and better 'engine' and a better neck-set/shape.
Seriously, I'd say he'd be just right for her.
(By the way, I don't own this stallion or have any vested interest - just know him and like him a lot. The stud is great, too - beautiful place, v nice people.
thanks for that i'm not the worlds best photographer !!!
i will bear him in mind especially as you don't own him and think so highly of him, must be good
he's into my top 10 though they seem quite expensive on the collection charges compared to others
i must say though he is a little expensive for my mare i am leaning towards him very much and my mare is hopefully getting overstamped with the SHB so i will be able to reg the foal.
so thanks everyone
I dont think he is that expensive for your mare & especially if he produces the goods. Do know what you mean though, I had the same thing with Mo. As she had no pprs it seemed a waste to use a £1300 stallion! Having seen the colt though, I may risk it next time. I am starting a list & as soon as I get the go ahead I will try for again. I have promised though not to use her until at least Prince is up & running. I owe my daughter that much, as she & Mo were just getting their act together & because I did not want Mo too old when she had her 1st foal & played the overruling parent. Anyway it will give me more time to access this years foal. And I am still trying to trace her history.
his price is going up to £500 this year and then the collection £70,each time and postage charges and then there is my vet who doesn't do a package she charges individually, says its fairer.
i will box my mare over there as i have a got myself a trailer now so she needn't stay in.
I work at the Stud where Med Night Mahout is standing. He's well worth his money at £500. He only had one mare who didn't take last year - she was only 3yo. PM if you want more details.
