Those of you who have had hocks medicated… how long after did they have to stay in for and have long until they could be ridden again?

My boy is an older boy now (22) and a couple of years ago when he had it done, I was told that he had to have two weeks off after having them medicated. He is having them done again tomorrow so I will chat to my Vet anyway but I was planning on taking him somewhere in two weeks time which of course is fine if this is not possible but I have heard of some horses carrying on ridden work as normal. He isnt lame with it, just feeling a bit stiff particularly when it’s cold so have been umming and ahhing about having it done anyway but it usually makes a massive difference so I think I have made my mind up.

Just wondering what your experiences are please?

My 21yo lad had his done and was in for 24hrs then a day off then ridden lightly the day after. He instantly walked a lot more free and it would have been a massive success. Unfortunately he was pts a few days later because of an unrelated injury, but the hocks were great!

Thank you, sorry to hear about your horse!

In for 24 hours. Went out like a flying kite and did loop the loop in the field ? so back into gentle work. Steroids weren't effective for long sadly but arthramid was better

With the racehorses they stay in for the rest of that day to allow the skin to heal over the needle holes, horse walker and turnout the next day then back into work the day after. So 48 hours in from medicating they were back in work. They trot for 2 days then a couple of days of gentle cantering. By day 5 or 6 they are back in full work.
