Meet Boots the greyhound :)

Well I posted a ridiculous thread about getting a puppy and working full time which was a no go before I posted I just needed someone else to remind me why (thanks all).

I started to look at rescue dogs and local dog walkers and by chance came across the Northumberland Greyhound rescue dog of the month, Boots. Needless to say we had a home visit, a visit to Boots and he came home with us the same day :D

He has been a very charming angel so far :cool: Everyone that meets him seems to love him, we love him to bits and he took all of a couple of hours to settle in on the sofa! He great on the lead, great in the house and is starting to come to call now.

He did race and retired about 8 months ago and ended up at the rescue kennels. He's 5 1/2 and definately a bigger greyhound and has dwarfed most of the local greys. He's a confident chap and doesn't seem to have any seperation issues but is always pleased to see you if you've been out.

It was definatley a case of right dog at the right time :D

I just think he's smashing and his new dog walker thinks he is a star too :D I just want him to be a happy healthy boy :)
 
He is lovely! Congratulations to you and Boots. I would love a greyhound but they might be a bit too fascinated by my lizards jumping about!x
 
What a seriously,lucky lad he is, he is gorgeous, im possibly biased cos i love greys and they do make the most fab pets as you now know, he is a handsome boy:)
 
I've always wanted one but was worried about it being lonely as I know a lot of them get worried by it, but he doesn't seem to mind at all. He can follow you about but often slopes back off to sleep once he's had a nosey!

He only seems bothered by getting cuddles off people and small furry animals (dogs/cats/rabbits).

I am totally biased and think he's brill, he's just slotted into his new life like it was normal :D

They're strange dogs, greyhounds. Strange in that those that come out of a racing, and kennelled existence almost always seem to slot into family life, as if they were brought up to it, and virtually immediately. As you've found out the first thing claimed is the sofa, or at least the sleeping arrangements!

Two or more together, really should be muzzled in public, because toy dogs may well be treated as that, toys and with disastrous consequences, but with a firm and patient approach, recognising that they have serious chase issues, which are set too deeply in place to correct, they generally make the most wonderful house pets. They're generally clean, quiet and amenable. What else could you ask for? :D:D

Again, well done!!

This! ...I have two ex-racing greys and agree with all Alec's points...congrats and well done on giving another greyhound a chance to have a life after racing...:D
 
Aw hes lovely!
I've got a greyhound boy from a rescue, he never raced (bunnies are so so scary!) and he now lives with my cat happily they are such lovely dogs that slot straight into a family :) even my nan who hated dogs now has him for a couple of hours a day and treats him like another grandchild ;)
 
He seems to thinks bunnies will appear from everywhere if we go walkies over the setaside at the stables!

I know he raced in Ireland as Boots Doyle and then came over here and raced at a flapping track (unlicensed track) so I don't have much race history unfortunately.

My mum thinks I'm mad for doing it, but she hasn't witnessed the epic sleeping performance he puts in yet ;)

He was a superstar at the vets last night and even managed to weigh himself without being asked lol :D

Gorgeous boy, good on you for going down the rescue route. I hope you both have a wonderful life together!:)
 
Ah he's so lovely. Greyhounds are the best!!! Loyal, happy, well behaved and contented!! I rescued a greyhound bitch from the North East Greyhound Rescue exactly a year ago. Coco is the best thing since sliced bread - so much part of the family and a real character. If you ever fancy meeting up for a walk - although you're very lucky to be able to let yours off the lead. Think Coco'd end up in Cumbria!!!
 
He is lovely.

I want some greys to go with my lurcher when I grow up ( when I actually buy a house I mean, I'm pretty old now so probably technically a grown up already). OH doesn't like how they look but has had to concede they are the most lovely 'people'

I do love a nice hound :)

Ah fab, sorry I didn't see this earlier (hopeless). I only let him off in the garden as I'm not convinced he's ever come back esp if there is anything that moves and is small and furry ;)

He really is brilliant, I feel lucky to have got such a sweetie who has slotted into our lives so well. He's starting to become more of a character now with his windmill tail of excitement and his daft 20 laps of the garden at warp speed, swiftly followed by the look of *I tired, need sofa mum*

Are you aware of the Great British Greyhound Walk coming up on the 24th June 2012?

You can read about it on the link below, I'm sure there'll be a walk in your area but if not, maybe you would be interested in organising one.

This made me smile, we got a retired greyhound through RGT a year and a half ago and this is exactly what he does. He's a huge lad too, but as soft as a brush.

Boots is lovely, glad he found you.

Ooh, what a lovely boy, looks like he's having an awful time at yours with all that sofa to himself though! :D

One of my parents dogs is called Boots, GSD x from a rescue, they already had a dog called Sox when we went to see her, so it was meant to be lol :)
 
He often has a poor puppy face when asked to lie on the sofa, I feel so mean lol!

Thats brilliant :D I was browsing for a new pair of boots at the time, ended up coming home with a different kind a week later (have now finally bought boots for my feet too)
