We have just got a new dog to join my 8yo GSD Scooby. She is a 12 month old GSD bitch and her name is Honey. Her owners couldn't keep her anymore.

She is lovely.... and very bouncy!!

She is a bit underweight though. Am going to take her to the vets on Tuesday to be weighed, microchipped and vaccinated.

Has anyone any good ideas on food to build her up a bit. She's a tall girl just a bit lean for my liking.

Scooby seems to like her although its just dawned on him she is staying and not a day guest!

PS... how do I post photos?

PICTURES!!!

Totally normal for them to be a bit lean at that age....get tripe if you can, fish/salmon oil, tinned tuna, eggs will all help.

Do you know her breeding at all? (Not important, I'm just a geek :p)

I don't know her breeding. Her owners were frantically trying to find her papers when we were there and couldn't find them. She looks well bred. I bred them for a long time but several years ago.

I recall mine being lean as young dogs but she is a bit more than just lean, she is ribby and a but tucked up behind.

How do I post pics?

You need to open a Photobucket account, upload the pics and then C&P the IMG code.

What was your prefix? PM if you prefer :) :) :)

I would just check with the vet if she has a food absorption issue, some GSDs have this as I am sure you know, but probably just needing building up.
All ours have done very well on Arden Grange (apart from Mr Itchy Pants :p) they have a salmon and rice variety.

Ok.... here she is {drumm roll}

Ah this was her in the home I picked her up from. Dogs are banned from our lounge :-( due to carpet and new 3 piece! We do have a fairly large house and lots of other rooms to go in inc dining room/lounging room!

Very pretty girl. Hasn't her face lightened up from the third picture down, or I wouldn't worry too much about her weight unless she is really ribby, but vet check is a good idea.

She's really lightened up. Took these pictures last night of her.

Obsessed with watching the rats!

She was so good overnight. This morning Scooby is so in love with her and following her evenywhere and giving her all his toys to play with.

She is however a nightmare on the lead. She pulled so hard she broke her collar!! Obviously not been walked much so think dog training classes in order to try and socialise her. If she sees another dog she loses the plot and trys everything to get over to them to play.

She has learnt to go and lie in her bed, and has stopped jumping up like a springbok overnight so that is good. Her appetite seems good as well.

Shes just gorgeous, I'm jealous too. Mine is nearly 12 mths old and is still lean. I don't want him fat at this stage so i'm not worried too much. He has feeds am and pm but burns off any chub at the stables.
