Most of you probably remember Dan, my old Welsh Section D who is now 22 and retired due to recurrent lameness issues, so I've been on the hunt for a newer, younger model.
Yesterday I went and picked up my new project. He is a 5yr old (6 in May) chestnut gelding with flaxen mane and tail and 3 white socks, registered Welsh Section D, 15.2hh. He was bred in Ireland and imported to the Sydenham stud, where he spent a year or so before being sold on to a home in Wales, where he was broken and hunted. Last October he was due to go to the sales, but a woman was on a hunting holiday with her horses there and picked him up while she was there. She wanted to make him into a show-jumping pony but he's quite nervous, so she decided to sell him on, and now he's mine! He is not very well conditioned yet and needs to build up a hell of a lot of muscle on his back end, but I think I can see potential in him. I will be mainly using him for dressage and he has fantastic paces, a huge walk, lovely springy trot and a great canter too. He is still very green, so lots of work for me to do.
His name is Knocknaveagh Eomer (so i have a Welsh Cob with an Irish name!) He is by Sydenham Elgin, out of Sydenham Orchid, both of whom are by Llanarth Lloyd George.
Here are some pics and videos of him if you're interested Videos are from his first day out in the field today and from when I tried him for the 1st time.
