That is one cute, and VERY dinky little chap.
So, what is the "official" name of a CKC x Yorkie then? A corky? I see some strange names advertised in the papers.
he is fantastic, what a good lookin chap. toilet training tips from a multi dog owner, feed at same times each day, wait 20 mins then take him out and praise like mad when he go's. if he so much as squeaks take him out and repeat praise, with our pups we are really persistent for couple of weeks, its tiring being ready before them all the time but if you suceed you will have him trained for life. we gave up on newspaper method as they got confused. good luck. ps i love the puppy smell and wish i could snuggle into him.
Thanks for the tips, we are praising him highly when he goes in the right place and ignoring him when he does it in the wrong place - i think he's picking it up because when he does go in the right place he comes to tell us asking for his treat but when he goes in the wrong place he just bounces off!!
Jacks mum, my puppy is now 4 months old and we started her on paper when we got her and we averaged about a 50% sucess rate - but we rapidly increased that to a 100% rate when we moved on to puppy training mats. they are large flat nappy like pads. They absorb the wet immediately so non of teh walking through it and trailing it over the floor. We also bought the spray which you put on the mats which attracts the pup to them...... problem solved 100% hit rate.
You are doing well though - I have a friend with a 7month old puppy which isn't toilet trained at all!!
Hi bosworth, thanks for that. we actually bought some of those the other day! i didn't realise there is a spray to go ith them though! Will be going back to the shop to get it. Thanks
If he's not toilet trained by 7 months i may just slit my wrists!!! I can't imagine tolerating that. I have an incontinent cat so have hard floors rather than carpets, but she really can't help it because of brain damage but letting an animal willfully piddle every where is beyond me!!
We are now on the training to go outside phase and that really is fun. first thing in the morning - immediately out for a pee.... 20 mins later out for a poo - no problems got the hang of that really quickly. What proud parents we were ........ but then we discovered - not that easy. If it rains - can't wee in the wet grass, or poo. so back inside and use the pads! Got over that by standing outside for ages getting very wet indeed but until she goes we stay outside. got it!!!!! then we add an new problem. Now we are encouraging her to go out off the lead - her recall is superb ( well bribery works brilliantly) she can run free and loose for 20 mins and gets too excited to pee or poo - so when we get her back in we have to put her on her lead and take her out in the garden again. Today I decided we would go for a walk straight after morning wee - before morning poo - took her out about 15 mins loads of running - started to look desperate and had to poo bingo - loads of praise, loads of treats. May have the solution now to get her over the excitement phase.
can't wait for the point that i can take him out properly rather than having to carry him! He's been to the yard a couple of times but after being fussed has to go back in the car poor boy.
yes I know - bad time of year but I had been niggling on for some months about wanting one and it is a well thought through idea. We had decided to stop looking till after xmas but Dandy came up and we fell for him so he came home. We do at least know that a dog is for always not just for xmas so I think we should be forgiven for him being my xmas pressie!!
