We have a pup sooner than expected. The original border collie pup we had chosen became unavailable as it had a veterinary issue. There was disappointment all round but then we started to search again and came across an advert we liked the look of so took a day trip to Wales on Sunday and came home with Pip. He is an 11 week old, ISDS registered, border collie. He came from a small family farm. We met Mum and Dad, both of who had lovely temperaments and seemed to be nice steady dogs.

Pip travelled beautifully in his crate in the car for the 3hr drive home, alternately sleeping and gazing out of the window. Since coming home he has been the model pup. He comes and sits at your feet when you call him, is calm and not bitey. Asks to go out for the loo. Only whines once a night to be let out and then goes straight back to sleep. He had his second jabs today so isn't quite ready to go out in public but he has been down to the horses both days and even came competing with me today and was foot perfect. Until we can get out and do more socialisation we have been having fun learning a few tricks at home. He learns super fast and I can't believe that on day two he knows so much already.

He is the sweetest dog and has fitted in beautifully. Even our lurcher likes him as the pup isn't all over him, he just gets on with his own thing. It's great to have a pup who seems to have such an old head on his shoulders. He is nice and confident but not so much that he doesn't need us! I think we have lots of fun times ahead of us.

Pics and vids below, hopefully!

oh my goodness hes cute! My pup is now 7 months old and is going through the terrible teens. I really miss the cute, lovable puppy stage!

I'm another one who is fighting puppy broodiness!

Please take this as a compliment. That's the softest looking border collie puppy I've seen in my life. I live in sheep country. I see a few!

Two blue eyes?

ycbm, his eyes are a funny grey/green colour. He has an interesting face as his nose is a mixture of black and pink too.

That's why I put the question mark, they didn't look blue but they clearly aren't brown yet. A friend's pup had light eyes at that age but they are now brown. She also had one years ago whose nose did eventually turn all black but it took several years!

Whatever, he has a temperament to die for by the sound of it.

Oh I say, isn't he just scrummy. I wouldn't normally go all gooey over puppies, I much prefer dogs of the more mature variety, but I could easily pinch him off you!

Many fun years ahead.

He's a grand looking pup and you seem to have taken a totally sensible approach to him so far, and it also seems that he's responded. Well done on all counts!

It will be interesting to see how he develops and if he assumes any desire to work. The last pic, a very 'collie and I know what work is' stance! :)

Alec.

What a shame about the original pup you were waiting for, but this one looks a cracker too. He also currently sounds like he will make the ideal pet collie - but time will tell, as they can change as they mature :D
