I haven't really posted for a while (more of a lurker these days) but I thought, as I'm quite so excited, I'll introduce you to Denys the new boy:

Sorry, nothing too fantastic at the moment but it was getting too dark and wet to get him naked! First opportunity I will get some stood up photos ;)

His name is Whitton Dancer - he's 16.2hh, sport horse (7/8ths TB) by Dancing High (Shirley Heights). He's 16 but you'd never know! Super chilled - his job is Mum's hack (she's a bit nervous) and my hack / dressage / maybe a piddly few jumps horse. We lost our lovely mare Maiden to colic last year and have only had small Pottie pony for a year, who neither of us can ride (too small for Mum and she threatened to rear with me so I won't sit on again). It's so nice to have a "proper" sized horse!

Unfortunately Mum and I are away this weekend, but that means he gets the weekend to settle in and get to know his new friends, and we'll be riding him next week on a couple of potters. Looking forward to my farrier getting his hands on Denys's feet - they're really quite long!

Can't wait :D

Maiden was grey too, but she rarely rolled (I think she was too badly built to be able to get up and down comfortably!) so she was mostly clean when outdoors. He's apparently a bit of a mud monster, but will be rugged until spring now unless we have a really nice day and lots of time to clean him before the next ride! :D

I think he may have had a bath, too, before he arrived - his tail is particularly clean. I bet he'll be very brown by the time we get back on Monday...

Thanks all, I will post update photos next week if I manage to get any after work!

My father ( a stable lad then) rode Shirley Heights back in his racing days at John Dunlop's yard. He said he was very sharp but strangely enough the offspring that followed on through yard were much more laid-back characters.

Hpoe you have lots of fun with him. x

Interesting, I don't know much about racing / racers but I was sure I'd heard Shirley Heights was sharp. Denys is quite a "looker" - he likes to see everything and have a think about it all, but he doesn't really do anything about it (doesn't spook, panic, or anything really!)

Can't wait to get back from the weekend and take pics!

Ok guys, here are the naked pics!

I'm absolutely in love! I've spent all weekend worrying about him as my (relatively un-horsey) brother has been looking after him - before I even left home I had a phonecall to say the neighbours had rescued him on Friday as his rug had ended up round his neck! Turned out it was too big and we hadn't noticed (oops bad mummy), hence change of rug... and then yesterday he must have whacked his leg rolling as he has a massive cut and my poor brother got trampled trying to clean him up in the dark with a torch :o

I visited this afternoon expecting to see a wild, unsettled beast but he is totally chilled and wandering off on his own to eat! He's getting on fine with Pottie but the other pony is pretty depressed at having been turfed out of his field with his girlfriend (he's moving on Saturday).

I hope our saddle fits him well enough for us to use it pending the saddler's visit... I can't WAIT to ride him now! :D

Oh, and seeing as I just got all excited having found his BE record (until I saw how many times he'd been eliminated :o ) - if anyone can log onto BD and tell me if he has a record with them (Whitton Dancer) I'd be most grateful! I thought I could do it with the free membership but it won't let me.

argh!!! grey naked horse and mud... rug him quick! :D he is a beaut :D I love that he is grey with black base and a cute little white snip on his muzzle, don't know why but I thought that was really sweet. Congratulations and nice to see you on here :D

Ah but Queenbee, I was clever about that - the pony had trashed a mud patch in his field, so when they swapped fields Denys was rugged and he rolled straight away. Then I whipped his rug off for half an hour so I could swap it to the one that fits, knowing that he was unlikely to roll again! ;)

He has already realised I'm a sucker for a cute face, and he followed me round his field when I did the poo picking which also rather got me :D

Holly Hocks - very interesting to hear what his relatives are like!
