My mother has a collie x bitch. They both love their walks. Mum has just phoned me, almost in tears as she met a man walking his two husky bitches. (I think I've mentioned these dogs somewhere on here before). Anyway, the man has little or no control over these dogs, they certainly don't 'heel'. He has them on a lead, the leads wrapped around his wrist. Mum walks around the corner with hers on a lead, walking to heel. The huskies go, and really mean it. Mum says it was like she was watching two rabid dogs. The chap gets pulled over and dragged towards mum. All mum can do is watch and hope the leads don't come off his wrist. She really feels it was very very unsafe for all. If at that point anyone had stepped in to grab the huskies, she was certain they would have been bitten. The noise of them was that of fighting screaming dogs.
Mums collie doesn't do anything, keeps quiet and stays by mum. After a few mins, minor control was gained over the huskies by the owner (all the time he was shouting at them to 'heel'). Mum managed to give a wide birth and walk home.
This owner has had the dog warden round, warning him of 'out of control dogs', and he was told they all need training. For a while he was doing better - witht he help of taking sausages with him to distract huskies from other dogs. The huskies killed a little perkinese last year when they got loose, so we all know they can and will do damage.
BUT, my major concern is, my kids. Mum has the children when I'm at work, and they all go for a walk together with my dog too. The kids often have the dogs on the leads.
What can I do about this? Who do i contact now? Offer me advice please, as I feel it is only a matter of time.
