Mega-tek hoof, mane & tail rebuilder - anybody used this to help mane rubbed out by rugs grow back?
Is it really as good as it sounds or too good to be true?

Me and a friend swear by it-and I even use it in my hair-it has really thickened it up and sped up its growth! :-D

brilliant stuff!

Used it on my NF who was missing 3 inch patch of mane. Started using April/ May time and had a full mane by the NF show in July.

Recently used it on my new mares hogged mane has grown back in 3 months.

aloe vera gel massaged in! its much cheaper! took my horses rug off 2 weeks ago, and she had 10cms long bald patch right in the middle (it looked awfull), so rubbed in some aloe vera gel left it for a few days and though nothing of it then took her rug off a few days later and it had grown loads! now 2 weeks down the line its grown alot :)

I used it on my mare, and it did absolutely nothing other than cost me alot of money! The only reason I got it was because people swore by it on here, but it didn't work for my neddie!

This sounds to me like yet another way of removing money out of your back pocket! 1 sure way to find out if this product is a con would be to "treat" 1 bit of mane with it and not with another.I would love to see the scientific proof behind this 1. You could maybe ask your vet and get his/her response which could be unprintable!!!!!! 2 seasons ago 1 of my horses had lost about 8 inches of mane due to rugs. With no "special" treatments it grew back enough to have full plaits by an international competition at the end of July.

Well my boys mane had been missing that section for a couple of months.... (I hadn't cared until I decided to enter the NF show). It only started growing when I started applying it.

Absolutely spot on.

If this product was £2 then ok its not breaking the bank - it is not its £20.

If you stop putting necks on your rugs and/or using hoods the mane will grow back just as quick as it you were not using it - only trying to save you the hassle of putting it on and keep the pennies in your pocket:D

The neck hoods are off and the mane does seem to be growing back a little, but typical, the minus temperatures are back.
Will try the Aloe Vera as I have some in the house.
I did think that the Mega-tek sounded a little too good to be true so that's why I posted on here before buying it.
The reason why Im so eager to get the mane back is that we have the biggest shows at the beginning of the season - the first one being April and then start of May and nothing but perfection will do for me! lol. Half a mane just wont do! So fingers crossed it will come back!
Might buy a small pot of Mega-tek and see if we can speed it up a little and take it from there.

For what it's worth, I have both Megatek, MTG - and lycra hoods!

So if your rugs are rubbing out mane and you need to keep those rugs on, I'd try first using a hood in place of a neck cover whether if it's the neck section or the wither section which is getting the most rubbed out. My horses are hooded and heavily rugged all winter and both have long manes, no issues.

The Megatek is a super conditioner, MTG is also good; if I had to take a punt, I'd say for growth promotion the MTG probably just has it but it is oily and smelly and not suitable (due to its oil base) for all-year use. The Megatek is much nicer to use though and definitely what I use for hair loss on my horses' faces or body when they've scratched or caught themselves playing. But more important to me is the hoods (which hold the mane in one place and act as a barrier between the mane and any rug twisting) and a good detangler which again makes the mane nice and slinky so not prone to snag on any material.
