I'm thinking of buying a gelding who has melanomas on his sheath. As far as I'm aware these are pretty harmless but I just wanted to ask your advice before I take things any further.
As the owner of a grey mare with melanomas i would say think hard before you buy the horse. I took the risk when i bought my girl she had a few under her tail 10 years on and she has them all round her lady bits, in her jaw line and round her anus and under her tail.
The 1st thing you need to be aware is that as you are buying a horse with them they will be excluded on your insurance. How old is the horse you are looking at? I wouldnt be keen to take on a young horse that already had melanomas however if the horse was 100% perfect in every single other way and the price was good i would maybe consider it. It is a hard decision good luck
