My new lad, 7 years old and grey has...wait for it.....melanomas - Gasp of surprise!

He has one just by his anus, and one between his back legs. Both are about the size of 5p's and not sore or open.

Someone recommended Aluminium free sodium bicarbonate to alter the acidity of the blood, but has anyone else got any recommendations to stop them spreading or growing?

I lost my 17 yr old last year to them.

There is nothing you can do about them (that's PROVEN to work anyway. Some people try cemitidine, v expensive, available from you vet, but again there's no proof it works). They are unpredictable and vicious tumours.

Never heard of the remedy you mentioned. Certainly wasn't discussed with me for my boy, and I had specialists involved.

I'm sorry to hear about your boy. Melanomas seem to be really horrible!

I guess we'll have to play it by ear.

A friend who used to be an equine vet, and is now an osteopath and reiki master, recommends sodium bicarbonate for cancer sufferers. Not sure whether it'll help, but it won't do him any harm, either.
