I'm a bit concerned, given how dangerous Sky Lanterns can be to horses and other livestock isn't it a bit irresponsible to use your website to promote them as suitable for memorials? It would be a shame to think that one's persons demonstration of their loss caused another person's loved animal to lose their life:(

Your entitled to your opinion. But I was asked to put them on and for the slim chance of accident. I will leave them on there, its no different than fireworks / hot air balloon / bonfires/ sparklers.

Obviously one has to be sensible when releasing them and not do it near hay - straw or near stables etc

To date I have not heard any news that something caught fire due to sky lantern

when you say you received your box this morning, I take it that you had ordered it from somewhere.

I spent an hour today with my 3 year old daughter and some craft stuff and made something better than that

If you paid more than £1.99 you were ripped off

Hmmm ....the main thing is that Leviathan is happy.

Looks lovely. It's important to cherish our happy memories.

There's no need to be so rude:eek:

As long as OP is happy with it and its suitable for what she wants it for, it doesn't matter if it cost 1p or £100!

Completely agree with this. What a rude, heartless comment. This memory box is priceless to OP. Have some respect !

I cannot believe that any horse owning member of H&H forum is promoting sky lanterns. They are terrible things. Should be banned.

My entire house is my memory box of my old girl. Boards of rosettes each a different colour hanging all the way up the stairs, 3 shelves of riding club trophies, a swatch of her mane and tail on the mantlepiece and photographs everywhere of course. Eventually (when I've saved up!) I will have an artificial diamond made with some of her fur included and then I can have her close to me for ever.

That's such a lovely idea!

No but the left over bits of lantern cause no end of problems to both domestic animals and wildlife.

The memory box is a lovely idea though :)

Actually No if you look at the person selling they are biodegradable.

There is always a risk with a flame but since they burn very quickly once up they are less risk to anyone.

DISCLAIMER :

THE SKY LANTERNS WE PERSONALISE ARE OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY, THEY ARE BIO-DEGRADABLE, ENVIROMENTALLY FRIENDLY & HAVE A PATENT PROTECTED FIRE PROOF BASE, HOWEVER, AFTERALL, THEY ARE PAPER & A NAKED FLAME THEREFORE WITH ANY SKY LANTERN THERE IS ALWAYS AN ELEMENT OF RISK.

How rude you are.
All you see is the top of the box. You have no idea what the rest of it is like. How its been personalised for me and my memories for my beloved mare. This is not a kiddie box like you made this is a professional memory box even to keep ashes in if you wish . Its magnetic and you have no idea of the size or material its made from (unless viewing the site) The seller has 100% feedback out of 1742 so I think the quality and personally finish speaks for itself.

That is your opinion not all will agree with you. I want something to set free on my mares birthday. This is what I have chosen its one way I want to celebrate her life. She is free of pain now and I wanted something more personal than a balloon.

I think this is really great idea, and I would like one for when my pony dies, its lovely and detailed! :) However I am just wondering, surely a horse can step in it/eat it before it disintrigates into the ground?

I think anyone worried about this should contact the seller for answers.:)

I tell you one thing - the amount of balloons I find in our fields with long tassels and the horses have left them alone.

I find

birthday balloons
wedding ones
even charity ones (who's balloon traveled the furthest)

I wonder if the people think of the damage a balloon can do when they let 100's of balloons in commercials or birthday/ wedding etc or charity ones.

I think your box is beautiful. Much nicer than the cardboard hat box I use for my old boy.
I also have keep sakes for my yearling, his first tooth, his first rosette, our first results in the magizine, I'd like a box to add to as we move on together.

I also have memory box for me and my partner.... It's just a shoe box full of cinema stubs and cards and mushy stuff that means something to me. Cringe.

Can you tell me where you got it please - PM if preferred.

My friend's horse died after injesting a small piece of metal from a lantern. It was a vile and painful death for him and she was completely devestated.

I imagine your 3y-o probably has better manners than you!

The memory box is a lovely idea OP, something to treasure. It looks really nice.

I think if people want to discuss lanterns and balloons, perhaps it'd be better to be respectful and start a separate thread?

There is nothing wrong with my manners, thank you

I believe in saying what I think, unlike many on here who pussyfoot around each other

btw, I had a look at the site and it was a very similar sort of box with a magnetic clasp

Yes not being scared to say something is good but a time and a place for it still stands.

Sorry people have been rude to you Op, I think it is a lovely idea :)
