menage planning and surfaces

the best surface
planning how much/how long etc
can they be done on the cheap
any advice much appreciated

I think it depends on what you want, what timee of year you want to use it, fenced or not fenced. Also the ground conditions of the site etc. Most people quote between £15 - £20k for a decent sized all year type. It can be reduced if you are able to do any groundworks yourself....Under instruction of course.

ground work would be able to be done by someone we know in the business which would reduce the cost,fencing would be done by ourselfs

I found a company called 'Leisure Ride' for surfaces to be really competitively priced and very good customer service.

I made so many mistakes on mine. So here goes....

Do apply for planning - I didn't and then got stopped
Do properly level - I didn't as wanted drainage
Dont put in a membrane
Dont use woodchip (nightmare in the winter, rain, sun)
Dont use the topsoil as shelter banks (I did and spend more time with a knapsack rounding up than riding some days).

Depends on your budget but I'd say spend as much as you can. I got a quote to fix all the above and trust me its more than starting from scratch and doing it properly.
