Got home at 6 and found Merlin had sliced his chest and taken the hair top layer of skin off his back legs.... windy day plus brand new hedge = one really badly injured pony who tried to get in and eat the hedge then got stuck in the fence. I don't have a stable and if the weather turns bad Merl will get muddy and infected. Is there anyone who has room for 2 ponies (have to bring Howie otherwise he will get upset on his own) needs to be fairly near to B'north so I can visit 2 x daily to treat his wounds.

He cant walk properly at the moment and I feel so awful for him.
Horrid pictures to follow at bottom of post. We signed up with the old pound in Much Wenlock. There is a lady locally who has some empty stables but she couldn't help as she works for a different practice- so I am pretty deperate. :(

Wish I could help but have no spare stables. I would personally consider moving to the stables you have an option on and if need be change vets (as long as they are a decent equine practice). Although I can't see there would be a huge problem just because she works for a different vets. is it your vets or the ones she works for saying they can't do it. I actually haven't had the best of experiences with Old Pound but maybe I was just unlucky.
Hope you get something sorted.
Taylord Equestrian is certainly another option, but again I imagine you would have to change vets as she is a long way from Old Pound, but she uses an excellent local practice.

Missed edit time, it really is too quick! Meant to add -
If you can't find anywhere, as long as tetanus shots are up to date, then I'd clean it off (I expect it looks better by daylight) of any dried blood etc, dry it off and smother it with Protocon or Sudacrem which will give it protection; I personally would not wash it off every day as long as you know the cut is clean. You must make sure there isn't any rubbish left in the cuts too as that would cause infection although judging by the blood, that should have cleaned it out too. I too, agree that movement is probably best as long as it's not opening up the wounds each step he takes in which case, stabling is your best option.
Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Hi all thanks for all the advice. Basically this field were Merl was injured in is rented- we have another of our own which is being rested. The daughter in law of the farmer who owns it is a vet. She recently (within the last month) opened a practice about 5 miles away. My vet is fantastic- has called me 3 times today to check on Merl and know any progress! anway, she said she would not help because he had been treated by another practice- concidering I was in tears and Merl needed a stable I was a bit taken aback especially as we were going to pay to borrow it. He is still in the field. Will upload recent pics now.

Hey, hope you are ok and Merl feeling alright too.
I have to say, and perhaps it's my monitors, but it looks quite grim but mostly superficial. The right leg in the picture looks worse but again not totally horrendous and the leg on the left in the picture looks quite clean with not too many deep cuts. Thinking back to Lottie's injury which was down to the tendon and bone iirc she healed remarkably well so i'm sure little Merlin will be ok.
Have you managed to progress on the stable at all? How about a very small paddock to restrict him a bit?

Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery
xx

Disgusted by the attitude of the vet (not yours) who could have helped. Don't vets in your area co-operate for the welfare of animals?

Anyway it looks a mess (and thanks, I was eating my tea!) but looks like it's just on the surface, so I'm sure it will heal up quickly. Have you been given some Norodine (anti-b) as a prophylactic measure?

Yeah brightmount my OH was also shocked- a friend in need etc etc. I hate it when vets become all about the money and not about the animals anymore.

Thanks Domane- will ring regarding the stables tomorrow. Vet is up to sedate him so that it can be washed properly tomorrow and see the cuts in daylight. Farmer next door who planted the hedge actually complained about the three squashed new hedging plants... tbh I could't care less- i'll buy him some tomorrow- they ony cost 2.99 each....
