Hi all after my positive update last week, this week isn't that good. :(:(
We had the kids this weekend and they rode Merryn on sat which went well he was such a good boy although he doesn't understand leadrein so I gave them a lunge lesson instead. :)
On Sunday I was at Alden horse trials so my OH was incharge of the boys. Merryn was turned out in the school with his muzzle on as usual but when my OH went to get him in in the eve he wouldn't move. It took 10 mins to get him into his stable and my OH rang me to say Merryn was very very lame. I got home quite late and went to see him. He couldn't put his right foot on the floor at all. :(:(:( I gave him two bute and a realy deep bed. Everyone seemed convcinced it was lami. My farrior is on holiday but when we spoke to him he said it was probalbly lami to. :(:( Yesterday he was just as lame as he was on Sun eve. The bute had done nothing to help. I polticed his foot as I wasn't convinced it was Lami. I've been so careful with his diet and he's been turned out in the school with a muzzle on.
Today I took the poltice off and there was puss :D Once again I don't think anyone has been happyer to see puss in there life. He is so much sounder now to. Obviously it stll hurts but he will put it down on the floor now. :)
Hopefuly it is only an abcess again.
Poor Merryn realy doesn't deserve this he is such a sweet boy.

oh no! hope he's on the mend soon.

an old fashioned remedy would be to hot tub it with epsom salts - literally stick his foot in a tub or bucket with hand hot water (made with boiling water!) and 2 table spoons of epsom salts. Stand for 10 mins if you can then re-poultice over night, hot tub int he morning and re-poulitce. Then if the poultice is coming away clean pack the hole with stockholm tar to seal it. If it's not coming away clean you might want the vet/farrier to pare the hole so that it can drain better.

Sounds more like an abcess than lami. Some horses have softer soles than others and sometime a little gravel gets in. I'd poltise and feel if there is any heat in foot.
