Dear All.
As you are all no doubt aware there has been a huge rise recently in the number of reports regarding horse thefts and people acting suspiciously around horses/yards. Horsewatch has been monitoring all these reports nationally and a significant number are indeed hoaxes. This is not to say there have not been horse thefts, see www.stolenhorseregister.com for those validated and reported to the police.
There will always be a number of unwanted visitors around our community, if you see anything suspicious write down the registration number/details and report this to your local police. Your information may well prevent a crime from being committed.
If you do not have a HW group or your force has not heard of us do something to solve this, start a group and involve your police, with our help they can make a better job of protecting us. If you are not a HW member then now is the time to join, see www.ukhorsewatch.org.uk for details. We offer security advice, practical help with tack marking etc and regular messages about national events you can rely on.
To best protect your horse it should be freeze branded, a visible deterrent and unique identifier, and passported to prove ownership. All other property is best marked with a home postcode. Visit any HW website for more details.
